Mr. Wirat Uanarumit appointed new Chief Executive Officer of Thaioil

Thai Oil Public Company Limited (Thaioil)’s Board of Directors has recently appointed Mr. Wirat Uanarumit as Chief Executive Officer and President, effective 1 September 2019.

Mr. Wirat received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Chulalongkorn University, and a Master of Business Administration (Financial Management) from Pennsylvania State University, U.S.A. In addition, he attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School, U.S.A. and the Advanced Management Program at INSEAD, France.

Mr. Wirat is a leading expert in the energy industry and has extensive work experience in finance and investment banking. He started his career with The Shell Company (Thailand) and subsequently held senior positions in leading global investment banks prior to joining PTT Group in 2005.

He was first appointed as Chief Financial Officer of PTT Group’s flagship refinery, Thai Oil Public Company Limited, at a time when oil prices fluctuated widely, before being transferred to oversee the business at IRPC Public Company Limited. He subsequently moved back to PTT and assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer of PTT Public Company Limited in 2014. Later, in 2016, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer, Upstream Petroleum and Gas Business Group at PTT, where his role included overseeing the exploration and production business of PTTEP and the entire natural gas business of PTT and that of PTT Global LNG. He subsequently took over his current position at Thaioil.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Wirat is active in various social service areas, including as a Committee Member of the Federation of Thai Industries, Chairman of Thai-Malaysian Business Council, a Committee Member of Thailand Management Association, and an Advisor of the Association of Capital Market Academy. Moreover, he has contributed his knowledge, expertise, and experience to educational institutions and non-profit foundations, having served as Vice Chairman of Chulalongkorn University Alumni Association, a Committee Member and Treasurer of Chulalongkorn University Engineering Alumni Association for four terms during 2006-2014, as well as a Council Member of Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology (VISTEC).
