Thailand’s Ministry of Energy has showcased its success in nominating Thai enterprises to win ASEAN Energy Awards 2019, with a total of 23 qualifying firms, setting a record for the highest number of award recipients in ASEAN for 10 years running.
The results highlight Thailand’s leading regional role in renewable energy technology, innovation and energy conservation, encouraging all stakeholders to collaborate on renewable energy and energy security at the 37th AMEM, held in Bangkok.
On September 4th 2019, H.E. Sontirat Sontijirawong, Minister of Energy, said: “2019 is a significant year for Thailand to host the 37th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting and Associated Meetings (37th AMEM). The event serves as a collaborative platform for energy related industries of the 10 ASEAN member countries. It is also a year of success for Thailand with 23 firms winning ASEAN Energy Awards - the highest number Award recipients in ASEAN for the 10th consecutive year.
The event also saw Thailand win six ASEAN Coal Awards 2019 along with an additional six awards in the Excellence in Energy Management by Individuals category. They include: Natie Tabmanie, Inspector-General the Ministry of Energy; Yongyuth Sawatdisawanee, Deputy Director General of the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE); Dr. Boonrod Sajjakulnukit from the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE); Kitti Petchsanthad, Assistant Governor, Transmission System Operation and Asset Management, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT); Tawatchai Sumranwanich, Assistant Director, System Planning Division – Transmission from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and; Chansin Treenuchagron, President and Chief Executive Officer, PTT Plc.
Garnering the highest number of awards this year demonstrates the strong collaboration between private Thai firms and state agencies in energy field as well as Thailand’s enthusiasm and advancement in the search for new technology and innovation in effective energy consumption and alternative energy.
Yongyut Jantararotai, Director General of the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE), said that: “DEDE has continually promoted mutual cooperation between public and private sectors on energy conservation and renewable energy through the Thailand Energy Award competition, and then nominated qualifying representatives for the ASEAN Energy Awards.”
This year, 23 enterprises from Thailand have won awards, comprising 10 Renewable Energy Project awards, 5 Energy Management awards, 5 Energy Efficient Building (EEB) awards and 3 Green Building (GB) awards.
“The main objective as set forth in the Alternative Energy Development Plan (AEDP) and Energy Efficiency Plan (EEP), which are 20 years in scope, is to promote investment, research and development of energy security and to reduce energy imports,” Mr. Yongyut continued. “The fact that a Thai firm has received the most ASEAN Energy Awards trophies for 10 years in a row could be the most convincing proof of the country’s determination to excel in this field.”
