The Thai future of Korean Plastic Surgery

The Thai future of Korean Plastic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery is bigger news than ever all around the world. Here in Thailand, the first name that comes to mind when the topic of cosmetic surgery comes up is Korean Plastic Surgery.

LCdr. Chakarin Suchakaro, M.D. launched TRIA Plastic Surgery, Piyavate Hospital Rama 9, on November 16th. He became popular in cosmetic surgery circles through

‘Happy Health’ TV program about making healthy choices. He is a Thai surgeon who has studied and has been trained in surgery at the Korean Hospital.

Dr. Chakarin revealed that Thai people are particularly interested in Korean Plastic Surgery because they have been impressed by the results. Korean cosmetic surgery has a specific style. It has the ability to drastically change facial characteristics to be like Korean superstars and idols.

Besides medical expertise, Dr. Chakarin says there is such a thing as “the art of surgery” whereby each surgeon sculpts in their own way.

Every surgery involves basic techniques that are used by all surgeons around the world, says Dr. Chakarin. Such techniques apply modern technology together with innovative medical equipment that together minimises pain and enhances full recuperation so that it takes less time.

Other aspects of surgical knowledge are a separate issue. Up until recently, those interested in the Korean school of cosmetic surgery have had to have their operations done in Korea where surgeons specialise in different areas of the face. Patients will therefore have a specific surgeon for the eyes, the nose, the cheeks and so on. Patients who have their surgery in Korea usually undergo several operations on different parts of the body at the same time, taking advantage of the opportunity of having access to a complete surgical team of specialists. Not surprisingly, there are ten times more Korean plastic surgeons than Thai plastic surgeons.

Looking at plastic surgery in Thailand today, Dr. Chakarin noted that one surgeon can perform many types of surgery. He has himself been thoroughly trained in Korea where he gained the ability to quickly analyse the face of each patient to see which procedures they need. Moreover, he can perform the surgeries without need of an extended surgical team.

While Korean Surgery is increasingly popular among Thai people, Thailand is praised as a top centre for beauty in Asia. According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) 2018, the number of foreigners coming to Thailand for treatment continues to rise. Whereas 10% of cosmetic surgery operations in Thailand previously involved foreigners, today that figure has risen to 30% and the trend is upward.

Most foreigners who fly all the way to Thailand for surgery come from the Middle East, the United States, Canada, and various Asian countries. Most patients are seeking the opportunity to have all the surgeries they want in one go, whether eyes, nose, breasts, liposuction, tummy tuck, breast reduction, breast lifting, and so on.

The main reasons they are attracted to have cosmetic surgery in Thailand is the renowned surgeons. Many Thai cosmetic surgeons have excellent backgrounds and eminent reputations. Moreover, they are ISAPS-certified, making it easy for patients to find out about them before they proceed with their surgeries.
