MEA campaigning air-conditioner cleaning to reduce global warming in 2020, increasing efficiency, reducing energy consumption

On 28 February 2020, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) launches a new campaign by which electricity users in residential and commercial buildings can clean their air-conditioner and reduce the global temperature with MEA 2020’s service at a special price of only 300 baht.

Participants must pay electricity bills via e-Payment at least once from the billing cycle from October 2019 until 3 March 2020. This special offer is available for 25,000 air-conditioners, but not more than four per elecreicity metre within the same area of the MEA service, including Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan. The application opens on Tuesday 3 March 2020 from 09.00 hrs via the MEA Smart Life application only. The application can be downloaded for free on both iOS and Android. Miss Pasuk Sampoonachot, MEA Public Relations Director, reveals that MEA as a government agency under the Ministry of Interior which focuses on the importance of the safety of electrical systems is now ready to pay close attention to society and the environment, together with concerning for people’s quality of life. There is awareness concerning global warming due to carbon dioxide gas and the occurrence of airborne pollution that people are continuously experiencing. In the summer of every year users tend to use air-conditioners more frequently under hot weather conditions. Air-conditioners lacking effective maintenance especially ones that have not been washed for a long time can cause the accumulation of dust and germs that persist in the air filter layer filled with moisture. This will allow bacteria and fungus to grow, leading to risks affecting health. It can cause various diseases, especially respiratory diseases, allergies and severe pneumonia. Therefore, cleaning the air-conditioner will help reduce the accumulation of dust and germs while increasing the efficiency of air-conditioners and promoting good health.

“MEA recommends that electricity users take care of air-conditioners by cleaning them at least twice a year, reducing the air-conditioner temperature to 26 degrees Celsius, and maintain electrical appliances for safety and to be ready for use. It will help save energy, reduce electricity bills, and reduce global warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions. For this reason, MEA aims for consumers to be aware of increasing the efficiency of air-conditioners and energy saving with the intention to protect the environment as well as reducing the occurrence of global warming. This campaign is thus carried out every year in collaboration with a professional team that meets standards.

In this regard, MEA also warns consumers to be careful of fake MEA service providers or fake advertisements. MEA confirms that MEA will start accepting applications for the project from 3 March 2020 onwards via the MEA Smart Life application only. If electricity users find fraudulent groups pretending to be MEA staff members, please immediately notify the police in the area, or ask for more information via MEA's social media channels, including Metropolitan Electricity Authority officials, at all locations. Users can also notify via MEA Call Center 1130, available 24 hours.
