Joins hands to accelerate digital education in Thailand, enhancing quality of research and innovation through 5G, Cloud and AI
The Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, together with Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., jointly signed a memorandum of understanding to support research and development (R&D) for engineering innovation through 5G, AI and Cloud. This collaboration aims to support the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, on its R&D for engineering innovation. This will also help drive Thailand forward to full-scale digital transformation.
Prof. Dr. Supot Teachavorasinskun, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, stated, “It is an honour to join forces with Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and we would like to thank Huawei Thailand for their support of our R&D projects. We hope that this collaboration will benefit the academics and students of the faculty, but most importantly, we hope this partnership will benefit society at large in the public health dimension. This MOU for academic cooperation is an important milestone in conducting joint research action with a global leading company in 5G, Cloud and AI solutions. Through Faculty of Engineering’s large body of knowledge accumulated over decades of experience, Huawei’s technology will empower our knowledge base and result in greater benefits in education, research and further development of various innovations, especially robot and automation systems as well as the development of virtual reality (VR) educational content. This partnership will lead us towards the exchange and enhancement of technological knowledge in response to digital transformation. It will also enable robots invented by our faculty members and students in our robotics laboratory to be more intelligent and to be automatically operated with AI and 5G technology. These locally developed robots will be of high innovation value for multiple practical purposes, which can address key local and global issues for accelerated digital transformation. Lastly, this academic cooperation will also ready our students and researchers for future innovation.”
Mr. Max Ma, Deputy Managing Director, Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., added, “We are deeply honoured to be a part of this significant collaboration. Huawei is delighted to offer tools, technology and training, and work together with the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, to leverage 5G, Cloud, and AI to help support R&D for the faculty’s innovation, while bringing technology to drive Thailand’s innovative capability through education, which is an important foundation for the country’s development.”

The Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, has been conducting R&D programs on robotic system and automatic control system that contributes to industrial workforces and medical robots, and in particular, on robots used in the recovery process of patients suffering from strokes. Additionally, the development program will include virtual reality that is anticipated to help online classes build an immersive study-friendly experience for learners. This five-year MOU will utilise the integrated technology of 5G, Cloud, and AI from Huawei to strengthen the potential and efficiency of remote control systems and processors of such engineering inventions. Results from the program will be analysed for further adaptation and development across other fields.
Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has been continuously cooperating with the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, in hosting seminars led by world-class technology and solutions experts sharing their experience and expertise exclusively with faculty, students and researchers, expanding academic potential using effective and efficient technologies.
