Kerry Express kicks off "Grow Green Programme" EV motorcycles used in deliveries

Delivery giant Kerry Express announces the launch of its "Grow Green Programme", a social responsibility series promoting the enterprise's environment and sustainability responsibilities to society.

In the first phase of the programme, Kerry Express is trying out using EV motorcycles for parcel deliveries in the Bangkok Metropolitan area. A fleet of EV bikes will be deployed to Kerry's distribution centres with variant features to verify the feasibility of using EVs as delivery vehicles.

Carbon emissions, energy cost efficiency, driving mileage and repair and maintenance costs will be recorded, studied and benchmarked against Kerry Express' thousands of conventional motorcycles running on the road every day. This test run will last four months. Then Kerry Express will consider feasibility, long-term roll-out planning and investment in EVs.

"Driving mileage, battery charging and vehicle cost used to be the bottlenecks that prevented EVs being effective. People did not see electronic trucks or bikes being welcomed by the delivery industry," said Alex Ng, CEO of Kerry Express (Thailand) Public Company Limited. “But things are changing, with the new solutions and technologies the new vehicles appear to work both environmentally and economically."

Kerry Express is currently the market leader in parcel delivery in Thailand, running more than 20,000 vehicles throughout Thailand every day.

“It is only a beginning. As one of the industry's biggest employers and innovators, we feel an obligation to do things for the country and the environment. It’s the only way we can be sure that the children of our employees and fellow citizens can have a cleaner and more sustainable future."
