The greatest event on renewable energy and electric vehicles in ASEAN

'ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2020' is held in conjunction with 'Boilex Asia & Pumps and Valves Asia 2020'. The leading trade show focuses on the latest technologies and innovations in industrial boiler, pressure vessels and pumps, and valves.

The show has been kicked off to unveil new business models from the Covid-19 crisis that businesses must take the environment into account, while also showing public and private sector potential, new innovations and long-term plans to move forward to a new sustainable lifestyle.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Supattanapong Punmeechaow, chaired the opening ceremony of ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2020 or ASE2020 today (23 September) saying, “I am very pleased that today all sectors have joined forces to organise ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2020, the most comprehensive renewable energy, energy efficiency, environmental and electric vehicle technology event in ASEAN. As the coronavirus outbreak is still affecting the global economy and Thailand, including the energy sector, it is considered a challenging problem in adapting to new normal living. In the past, the government, including the Ministry of Energy, has taken action to mitigate immediate problems for all sectors, both in terms of income assistance measures and reducing energy costs. The Ministry will continue to carry out all measures, especially the creation of jobs and income. This crisis will not go away anytime soon but there may be an end to it sometime in the next 12-15 months. Therefore, the Ministry of Energy is realising long-term measures to promote all sectors, including the public sector and the private sector, to adjust business models for sustainability in line with the BCG Economy policy which consists of Bioeconomy, Circular economy and Green economy, leading to the development of sustainable economic models to meet the unpredictable changes in every situation.

“The Ministry of Energy continues to implement the Alternative Energy Development. Plan (AEDP), which aims to use renewable energy in Thailand to achieve 30 percent of total energy consumption by 2037. Under the plan, more renewable energy use will be promoted while will also continuing to promote community power plants with highest benefit for farmers and develop all sectors towards sustainability. Moreover, the government has a policy to support solar energy in the public sector and drive alternative energy such as batteries and electric vehicles (EV). The government will also have a policy to develop new energy innovations, reduce production of carbondioxide, bring intelligent systems to be used in the electrical distribution system, and create new businesses to support the future of Thailand. It will also promote Thailand as a regional renewable energy investment centre. ASE 2020 is an event that truly answers the needs of advancing Thailand and regional energy adaptations to sustainability,” Mr. Supattanapong said.

Mr. Manu Leopairote, Chairman of Informa Markets – Thailand, as the official organiser of ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2020 (ASE 2020), revealed that, “The COVID-19 pandemic as affected all sectors of the Thai economy but business operations and sustainable development must not be disrupted. This is in line with Informa's vision that aims to push the industry to have opportunities to develop, learn about technology and innovation and move towards sustainability. In consequence, the organisation of the event under a new normal theme responds to the new way of living. The event has been organised and developed in the form of a Hybrid Exhibition to support both the physical exhibition and the virtual exhibition. This format facilitates foreign visitors who cannot visit the event in person but can meet and talk with exhibitors through online platforms throughout the four-days. In addition, safety and sanitation are enhanced for those visiting the event. In accordance, organisational and sanitation measures follow Informa AllSecure safety standards and surveillance and monitoring measures for the transmission of COVID-19. This assures everyone attending the renewable energy technology exhibitions and conferences which comprise the most complete environment conservation event of the year.”
