All the sectors are gearing up for the projects post Covid-19, which are due in the last quarter of this year to compensate for the slowdown caused by the pandemic. Thai gem and jewelry industry has been severely affected and currently the government and related agencies have teamed up to organize fairs and tradeshows to increase sales volume.

The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) or GIT, as the main organisation to promote and develop the Thai gem and jewelry industry has organised various activities throughout this year, such as online seminars, trainings to increase personnel potential, inspection and certification of gemstones, jewellery and precious metals, and in December the institute together with the province of Chanthaburi,  Chanthaburi Gem and Jewelry Traders Association, Chanthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization and Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau will organise “International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival 2020” under the theme “Go Together: Chanthaburi City of Gems” on 18-22 December 2020.

Deputy Director of GIT, Mr. Sumed Prasongpongchai said that the objective of this event is to promote Chanthaburi as the city of gems, strengthen entrepreneurs’ and community enterprises’ capabilities to compete in the global arena.

“The coronavirus outbreak has caused unexpected disruption to the industry and we have to change the way of conducting businesses and move forward by doing things differently. Chanthaburi is known for its gems and jewellery products, talented craftsmen and local craft wisdom making it a leading market and manufacturer of quality gemstones and jewellery.

“In addition to having a wide selection of gems and jewellry, buyers have an opportunity to purchase products at a cheaper price. We hope that the fair will help boost sales and tourism of Chanthaburi as well.

The event will bring together more than 300 Thai and international entrepreneurs, who will showcase raw gemstones, polished gemstones, jewellry making materials, machines and tools.

GIT will also provide a mobile gem and jewelry laboratory for gem testing and validation under the “Buy with Confidence” project to assure shoppers of Thai gem and jewellery products’ quality and authenticity.

The International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival 2020 will be held on 18-22 December 2020 at The Chanthaburi Gem and Jewelry Center, KP Jewelry Center and OTOP Lifestyles shop at Gems Market Srichan Road.
