The Future of Education - But Not as We Know It

Education Disruption Conference 2 – Reimagining Thailand Education Through 2030

With new and emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Virtual Reality, and an unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic, the world is changing faster than ever.

With new and emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Virtual Reality, and an unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic, the world is changing faster than ever. In 2020, the pandemic has forced the education industry to shift rapidly and massively. Virtual classrooms became the new normal. The unemployment rate spiked from 0.67% in 2019 to 1.95% in 2020. Ironically, there are more than 35,000 job vacancies but skills available don’t match those needed. Meanwhile, the education system is not preparing us fast enough for this distribution.

“With in the next 10 years, over 1 billion people worldwide will not have the necessary skills to participate in the emerging global workforce, leaving more than half of the future workforce unprepared,” observes Krating Poonpol, Founder of Disrupt Technology Venture and Founding Partner of 500 TukTuks. “What’s more frightening,” he says, “is that 35% of the skills obtained from the education system will not be useful after graduation, leading to higher disparity in education. These problems can be solved through equitable and inclusive access to quality education and learning. This is the time everyone has to adapt to become lifelong learners, learning new skills throughout their lives.”

Disrupt Technology Venture, the leading startup and digital innovation program in Thailand, believes we must take action now. In collaboration with Equitable Education Fund (EEF) and several key partners, Disrupt hosted Education Disruption 2: Hackathon in May 2020 to provide space for startups seeking to solve educational issues. Startups with potential then had a chance to join the accelerator, Stormbreaker Venture. To further strengthen the education ecosystem, the collaborators are now hosting Education Disruption Conference 2: Reimagine Thailand’s Education 2030 virtually this November to share insights and call on everyone concerned to be part of the change in our education system.

When the collaborators hosted Education Disruption Conference 1 in 2018 the event attracted over 1,000 attendees. This year, the collaborators have invited world-class speakers and industry experts to share their knowledge and insights with the focus on five key themes: Disruptive EdTech, Future of the Workforce, School of the Future, Social Entrepreneurship, and New Age Parenting.

“The collaborators believe that education goes beyond the classroom and the world requires everyone to be a lifelong learner,” adds Krating. “So this virtual event is for everyone, whether you are an educator, EdTech entrepreneur, social entrepreneur, student, parent, corporate employee, policy maker, or investor.”

Examples of questions attendees will get answers to from this conference include:
