Ajinomoto signs 5-year contract for technology transfer of PGPR bio-fertilizer with Department of Agriculture

Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd., represented by Mr. Takaaki Arashida (5th right), Vice President, recently signed a 5-year contract for technology transfer of PGPR bio fertilizer with the Department of Agriculture (DOA), represented by Mr. Phichet Wiriyapaha.

Under the contract, Ajinomoto Thai has the right to utilize PGPR technology and know-how in developing, producing and distributing the bio fertilizer to Thai farmers at reasonable prices for five years. The signing was held at the Department of Agriculture.

Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) bio fertilizer is a beneficial group of soil bacteria that is capable of colonizing plant roots and promoting plant growth by nitrogen fixation, dissolving the mineral in soil and producing the growth substance which affects agricultural productivity and crop strength.

Mr. Takaaki stated that, “Every year, Ajinomoto Thailand consumes a lot of agricultural products and we would like to contribute sustainability to Thai agriculture by using our bio-technology and bio-cycle value chain to create more productivity and value for Thai agricultural produce. As Ajinomoto and the DOA share the aspiration to  improve farmers’ wellbeing, we are collaborating and we have signed this agreement to develop and provide ample PGPR bio-fertilizer at reasonable prices for the benefit of Thai farmers. We hope PGPR bio-fertilizer will increase crop yield by 10% and reduce usage of chemical fertilizers by 25%. All in accordance with Ajinomoto Group’s overriding concept of “Creating Shared Value”.
