Tech for all, Cloud for Good, HUAWEI practices its values in supporting education

As we draw towards the end of 2020, the acceleration effect COVID-19 has had on the transitioning of various industries to digital and cloud in Thailand is becoming increasingly visible. Education is one of the key sectors witnessing this digitalization, technology playing a crucial role in allowing for a smooth transition. As physical classes shifted to smart online classrooms abruptly, traditional education had to be reinvented. Through Tech4All, Huawei’s long-term digital inclusion initiative for using technology, applications and skills to empower people and organisations everywhere. We continue to strive to offer cloud solutions that accelerate the digitalization of education, and support Thailand’s 4.0 requirements by strengthening the country’s ICT talents.

Here at Huawei we understand the crucial role of education in driving future growth. As such, we aim to provide equal access to every student, by constructing high-speed and stable campus networks, and empowering educational management, while providing better distance learning experiences through Cloud Services. HUAWEI’s Tech4All notion aims to support every level of education around the globe. In China, educational inequality between urban and rural areas is reduced by innovative solutions. The Peng’an County Education, Science, and Sports Bureau (PESSB), together with Huawei, set up both strong network and cloud-based courses, to provide students from rural areas with the same access to resources as students in urban hubs.

In Thailand, HUAWEI continues to stay committed to ensuring digital technology access to all students through the Tech4All initiative. Despite the sudden suspension of classes during the lockdown earlier this year, students were able to continue learning online, thanks to the accessibility of digital classes on the Cloud, and the commitment of many partners in Thailand who supported Huawei’s initiative, so that students in rural and urban areas had access to the same quality resources. “We believe that everyone, everywhere has the right to education and the equality of opportunity it brings”, affirms Ken Hun, Deputy Chairman, Huawei.

Huawei also is also reinforcing increased efficiency in the education system by partnering with universities. In Indonesia, HUAWEI CLOUD has partnered with U-Learning to provide a scalable one-stop learning platform and online learning management system to University Muhammadiyah Jakarta.

In Thailand Huawei and the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, signed an MoU in August 2020, to support R&D using cloud and AI solutions. The robotic and automatic control systems developed by Chulalongkorn will benefit from cloud and AI solutions integration from Huawei during the five-year period of the MoU. Knowledge and technology resulting from the program will contribute to Thailand’s industrial and medical workforce as well as the education community. Huawei’s technologies will further empower and provide greater benefits to the country’s education system.

Another key area of Huawei’s Tech4All initiative is the effort to cultivate ICT talents and help Thai practitioners become better equipped with digital skills, thus supporting Thailand’s 4.0 workforce requirements. The academic partnership with KMITL in establishing the first ICT academy in Thailand makes Huawei feel honoured to be a humble partner tjat can help drive the growth of Thailand’s vital resources and advance technological development. Further initiatives such as HUAWEI Academy ASEAN and HUAWEI Cloud Academy, offering free access to online courses and certification support, not only provide equal access to everyone but also widen the horizon of possibilities in the education system, resulting in the further development of the country and the region.

The role of Cloud technologies will only continue to increase in a digital landscape accelerated by the pandemic. That applies in all domains, but especially in education and business sectors. Cloud is the main way for governments and enterprises to access digitalization technologies. According to our own Huawei research, in 2025, 85% of enterprise applications will be in the Cloud. Hybrid clouds have become a necessary requirement for governments and enterprises, and edge computing has started to gradually be applied to enterprise applications.

Huawei Technologies Thailand announced its “Cloud First” strategy in April, echoing Huawei’s “Cloud Only” strategy, meanwhile moving into top gear to develop its local team and ecosystem and provide the best experience for Thai customers.

Huawei is proud and humbled to have been a part of Thailand’s development so far. We continue to be wholly committed to sharing our knowledge, innovation, and technologies for a better and fully-connected Thailand with better-equipped digital talents in the country. At Huawei, we continue to stay committed to driving digital economy growth, bringing benefits of digital technologies to Thailand and enabling the country to become the regional digital hub.
