Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) has responded to a new governmental directive, to help alleviate the financial burden of the general public affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, with the introduction of a 10% reduction on water bills. The scheme is applicable to small residential accommodations and premises only (excluding government and state-owned agencies) during February and March 2021. The bill reduction is expected to provide relief for up to 4.55 million people, a cost equivalent to 257 million baht.
Kritsada Sunkhamani, PWA Deputy Governor (Technical Affairs) and Acting Governor revealed: “The recent wave of the COVID-19 outbreak has spread widely and rapidly, covering most areas across Thailand, impacting the public way of life and the economy. On 12 January 2021, the government agreed to launch urgent relief measures for the public and business sectors, from January to March 2021. On behalf of Ministry of Interior, PWA is responsible for the provision of water, for the public, in 74 provinces – except Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakarn – and this 10% reduction in water supply charges complies with the government’s relief measures for the basic national infrastructure, including electricity, water supply, and internet.”
The reduction is effective for two months, starting from February and March 2021, where the “10% discount to comply with government policy” message is in effect. Households benefitting from the scheme will see the reduction automatically on their bills, without applying or registering their interest.
PWA Deputy Governor added: “The relief measure will help over 4.55 million people save money and will reduce the cost of living to the tune of 257 million baht.”
