Surf-skate’s up! Central Pattana transforms free space into extreme sports hotspots

Central Pattana plc., operator of centralwOrld, CentralPlaza, CentralFestival, Central Phuket and Central Village, has revealed it has been repurposing the open spaces in front of the brand’s shopping centres, to better serve the surf skater community that congregates there.

Following exceptional feedback from the surf-skaters themselves, Central Pattana plc has decided to continue to provide space for the sport at a further nine branches across the country, including centralwOrld, CentralPlaza WestGate, Lardprao, Bangna, Salaya, Nakhon Ratchasima, Rayong, Lampang, Chiangrai, Phitsanulok, Chonburi, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, CentralFestival Chiangmai, Hatyai, Samui, Pattaya Beach, Central Marina, Central Phuket and Central Village.

Discussing the company’s commitment to the sport, Dr. Nattakit Tangpoonsinthana, Executive Vice President of Marketing of Central Pattana said: “Central shopping centres have been promoting themselves as ‘Centres of Life’. We have always supported the activities within the local communities where we locate. To keep up with the latest sport trends, we have piloted and supported the use of the large, safe spaces in front of 19 shopping centres nationwide, for extreme sports, such as surf-skate, skateboarding, rollerblading and longboarding, in order to create a local sports community, free-of-charge.

Moreover, we facilitate the players with many services, for example, workshops with surf skate gurus, free equipment rentals, and free drinking water, parking, and Wi-Fi. During this time, we encourage everyone to stay healthy, exercise, work out, and build sports communities together under the strict measures of Central’s Hygiene and Safety.”

As of now, centralwOrld, the latest surf skate landmark to arrive in Bangkok, has opened its 1,000 square metre space to welcome those who are interested in extreme sports, free of charge, until 31 March 2021, from 16:00 – 21:00 hrs. A variety of activities are available onsite, including free professional workshops from national downhill skateboarding and Tokyo Olympic 2021 athletes and other professional athletes from the Thailand Extreme Sports Association, who pass on their tips on how best to hone technique and perfect skate skills.

CentralPlaza Lardprao is another location to make use of space in this way. The space is free to use every day between 1600 -2200hrs. CentralPlaza Lardprao is also rolling out free-of-charge workshops, this time from skate shop Nomorewalk, every Thursday throughout March 2021. The package includes free equipment rental, water, and Wi-Fi, along with professional photography to capture all the action.
