Cabinet green-lights Somboon Sunanthapongsak as PWA’s new Governor

The Thai Cabinet has passed a resolution to appoint Mr. Somboon Sunanthapongsak as the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA)’s 15th Governor, effective upon contract signing date.

Mr. Thanakom Chongchira, Chairman of PWA Board of Directors, revealed that the cabinet’s resolution to approve the Ministry of Interior (MOI)’s candidate has made Mr. Somboon the 7th Governor from the selection committee of the PWA.

Mr. Somboon will therefore continue the MOI’s mission to expand PWA’s service areas, in order to elevate the quality of life for the public by ensuring sufficient supply of clean water for consumption. He will also push the efficiency of PWA’s infrastructure and service provision by introducing advanced technologies through the organisation, resonating with its vision: “Leading the way to being a high-performing and sustainable organisation with excellent waterworks services”.

Born on 10 March 1962, the 59-year-old Governor has a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering) degree from Khon Kaen University, a bachelor of Technology (Construction Management) degree from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) Program degree from Chulalongkorn University.

He has also graduated from several professional courses, including: New Enablers for Performance (Class 1), Institute of Research and Development for Public Enterprises (IRDP); Advanced Certificate in Public Administration and Executive Laws (Class 18), King Prajadhipok's Institute; Director Certification Program (Class 234), Thai Institute Of Directors; Joint Staff Program (Class 53), Joint Staff College; Advanced Government Law Administration Program, Office of the Council of State; and Digital CEO Program, Digital Economy Promotion Agency.

Starting his career at the Provincial Waterworks Division, Department of Public Works, prior to his appointment as PWA Governor, Mr. Somboon gained 30 years of work experience, including major achievements at Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA), and has held a number of high-ranking positions, including such as Assistant Governor (Service 5), Deputy Governor (Western Services), Deputy Governor (Water Production and Transmission), Deputy Governor (Eastern Services).
