Hermès invites artist Terawat Teankaprasith to design its new window display entitled “The Journey of Masan,” celebrating the Masan & Masan scarf

Unveiled on 1st September at the Hermès stores in Bangkok and then at the Hermès store in Phu-ket, the window display created by Terawat Teankaprasith brings the Thai artist’s Masan & Masan scarf design from Hermès’ Autumn-Winter 21 collection to life in playful and inventive ways, mak-ing the carré the focal point of the installation. Masan & Masan, which literally means “woven horses” in Thai, presents two woven horses in a face-to-face encounter, thus paying homage to Hermès’ equestrian roots while demonstrating traditional Thai hand-weaving know-how, printed on a vibrant silk scarf.

The window display reveals the journey behind the creation of a Masan horse through the creator’s imagination, showcasing the house’s creativity, craftmanship spirit and appreciation of local hand-weaving know-how while resonating with the annual theme for 2021, “Hermès, An Odyssey.”

The unique composition of the windows brings together an exquisite design to surprise and capti-vate visitors. The overall impression elaborates the striking design of the scarf while presenting Thai local craftmanship, the scarf itself standing out at the centre of the display to celebrate the first Hermès carré designed by a Thai artist.

Born and raised in Thailand, Terawat incorporates ancestral Thai know-how into his work by using hand-woven sun-dried water hyacinths as a key decoration for the windows; an homage to a be-loved, locally woven toy from his childhood.

Hermès’ window displays have always been an expression of Hermès’ imagination to exhibit arti-sans’ and artists’ works and to make onlookers dream.  “The Journey of Masan” installation allows passers-by to gaze through the windows, admire Hermès objects and dream about a joyful journey.
