The ASEAN-Bangkok Learning Centre, College of Overseas Chinese, Walailak University Centre, is officially open!

Walailak University in collaboration with Fujian Open University, the Republic of China, marked the inception of the ASEAN-Bangkok Learning Centre, College of Overseas Chinese, Walailak University Centre, operating for educational collaboration between Thailand and China and endorsement of the “One Belt, One Road” policy among ASEAN fellows. On 28 June 2022, the opening of the centre officially commenced with an unveiling ceremony and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at Sri Thammarat Meeting Room, Architecture and Design Building, 3rd Floor, Walailak University. Attendees also attended a virtual meeting at Bohou Building Auditorium, the Fujian Open University at the Guishan Campus, China.

On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Voravuth Somsak and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Acting Vice President of Walailak University, welcomed Mr. Pinit Jarusombat, Thailand’s former Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Council for the Promotion of Thai – Chinese Culture and Relations, Mr. Prakob Ratanaphan, Chairman of the Education Committee, House of Representatives, Dr. Patcharinruja Chantaronanon, Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and the executive team from Fujian Open University.  

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Voravuth Somsak stated that the establishment of the ASEAN-Bangkok Learning Centre, Walailak University Centre, College of Overseas Chinese, Walailak University will contribute to improvement in terms of education and work within the region, positive economic advances and production of graduates embodying internationally-recognised competence. In addition, the cooperation is directed toward vocational education, Chinese language Studies, research cooperation, and exchange of staff and students in line with the “One Belt, One Road, One Belt” policy and the "Thailand 4.0" model.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Voravuth Somsak, Mr. Wu Guorong, President, Fujian Open University, and Mr. Suthikon Jearaphaitoon representing Open Education Group (Thailand) Co., Ltd. joined the signing of an MOU of the ASEAN-Bangkok Learning Centre, College of Overseas Chinese, Walailak University. The centre is commissioned to promote exchanges and cooperation in education between China and Thailand, seek post-pandemic paths toward China-Thailand Open Education Cooperation, and promote language learning and cultural exchange and formal diploma and certificate programs.

Fujian Open University is a pioneer in continuing education and lifelong learning in China and plays a substantial role in regional economic and social development. The university retains its reputation for competence in managing international education. The centre utilises information technology for advanced education and integration of an innovative model "Internet + Chinese" to knowledge sharing between Thai and Chinese educational institutions.
