TCMA joins FTI EXPO 2022 as it accelerates ‘hydraulic cement’ adoption Low-carbon cement targets greenhouse gas emission reduction

Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA), the collaboration of Thailand’s leading cement producers, joins forces with all sectors to accelerate adoption of ‘hydraulic cement’, a low-carbon cement, and stimulate industry-wide GHG emission reductions. GHG emission reduction involves green mining, low carbon cement, and co-processing of waste in cement kilns. This is in line with circular economy and aims to propel the industry to achieving net zero emissions in 2050 in accordance with Thailand Cement & Concrete Net Zero 2050 roadmap.

TCMA recently ran a campaign to stimulate action on climate change by Thai cement concerns embracing stakeholder collaboration among concerned parties and collaboration in FTI EXPO 2022 at Chiang Mai International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, along with Mr. Kriengkrai Thiennukul, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), honoured the TCMA-led exhibition with their presence. They were welcomed by Mr. Chana Poomee, TCMA Chairman together with TCMA Executive Board members.

Hydraulic cement, an innovative low-carbon, environmentally-friendly cement that reduces greenhouse gas emissions from cement production was presented at the expo. Hydraulic low-carbon cement is increasingly used and looks bound to completely replace Portland cement by 2024.

With the collaboration of all concerned sectors in the country, including cement manufacturers, government, professions, industry, and education, the objectives can be achieved as planned.

The collaboration with GCCA (Global Cement and Concrete Association), the world’s leading organisation in cement and concrete, enhances and helps the Thai cement industry advance in line with global moves to achieve Net Zero by 2050. Moreover the collaboration is set to make its mark at the COP 27 climate change summit coming up in Egypt in November.

TCMA was honoured to be joined at TCMA by many senior executives across relevant agencies who lent their support to the net zero cause. The expo was also visited by several thousand members of the general public who joined the commitment to making a difference by reducing their own greenhouse gas emissions.
