MEA organises meeting to clarify the underground power cable project in Thon Buri area

Mr. Thitiwut Ngenklai, Director of Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) Project Management, chaired the meeting to clarify the overhead-to-underground cable conversion project along four routes i.e. Arun Amarin, Somdet Phra Pin Klao, Phran Nok and Wang Lang roads. Representatives from corporate, private and public sectors in the areas were invited to hear details of the operational plans and exchange ideas on the possible impacts during the construction. The meeting was held under strict Covid-19 screening measures and ATK testing on 10 August 2022 at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall, Arun Amarin.

Mr. Thitiwut said that as MEA has emphasised power efficiency for smart living in response to the policies of the Ministry of Interior and the government to consistently accelerate overhead-to-underground power cable conversion, recently MEA has launched its project on Arum Amarin Road (from Rama VIII to Prajadhipok roads), Phran Nok Road (from Itsaraphap to Charan Sanit Wong roads) and Wang Lang Road (from Arun Amarin to Itsaraphap roads), covering 8.2 kilometres. The project is expected to demolish the light poles in 2025. The construction will take place during 22.00-05.00 hours daily in order to avoid effects on traffic.

The construction project includes the construction of manholes and underground conduits, the construction of equipment bases, the installation of electrical equipment, the installation of underground cables, and the cable conversion from overhead to underground.

This project will help enhance stability and credibility of the power systems and readiness to support the increasing demand of corporate and private sectors in the area while creating beautiful scenery in Bangkok and Nonthaburi provinces, and increasing safety for the local residents. Meeting participants have expressed valuable opinions and information for MEA to develop its operational plan to be properly carried out with the least effect on the public.
