Ajinomoto supports coffee farmers’ sustainable productivity

"Birdy®", the no. 1 brand of RTD coffee in Thailand for more than 30 years under Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd., makes the effort to promote sustainable productivity of Thai coffee farmers, from planting through to harvesting quality coffee beans. The commitment reflects Ajinomoto’s intention to lift the quality of life for Thai farmers while providing consumers high-quality goods.

Since beginning business until now, Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd. has had the intention to promote the quality of life of Thai coffee farmers by using high-quality coffee beans from domestic production sources as raw material. Today, the volume exceeds 1,400 tons per year and amounts to over 129 million baht annual income for Thai farmers.

Ajinomoto aims to conduct its business toward sustainable development. In addition to setting a goal to reduce the environmental impacts of its business activities, the company has initiated various initiatives to promote a better quality of life for Thai farmers. After all, they are the upstream sources of the main raw materials used in the production of the company's products.

Ajinomoto recently cooperated with government sectors and the Department of Agriculture to support and introduce know-how to coffee farmers in Tak Province. The location is one of the sources of the good quality coffee beans in Birdy products.

Ajinomoto participates in promoting Thai farmers’ sustainable production at every stage, from upstream to downstream. This starts with going to the areas to exchange information and understand cultivation problems farmers experience.

Next, Ajinomoto provides development solutions for them, including soil analysis, water supply management, farm management, and plant disease prevention. This  includes providing organic chemical fertilizer ‘Amimate®’ developed from fermented broth derived from the AJI-NO-MOTO® MSG manufacturing process. This, in turn, helps to increase productivity while also avoiding the use of chemicals. It is regarded as a biological cycle whereby Ajinomoto supports farmers so they can cultivate the best coffee beans that constitute high-quality raw material for producing the no.1 RTD coffee in Thai hearts, namely, “Birdy®”.

For over 63 years, Ajinomoto has been conducting business in Thailand. Throughout, it has prioritized delivering value through products tailored to the needs of consumers. At the same time, it has taken care of social and environmental problems. All this has created a "solution-providing group of companies for food and health issues" under "The Ajinomoto Group Creating Shared Value (ASV)" as a conceptual framework for the Ajinomoto Group's work worldwide.
