Ministry of education celebrates its 131st anniversary embracing change and elevating thai education amid transitions

Over the past three years, Thailand and countries around the world have experienced severe crises stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic while also grappling with the impacts of disruptive digital technologies. These important factors prompted the world to adjust drastically and quickly. Meanwhile, scholars coined the acronym “BANI World” (Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, Incomprehensible) to describe the rapidly changing conditions and outlook.

This world of transition, volatility and challenges impacts the physical and mental conditions of people of all ages. Thus the Ministry of Education, which is mainly responsible for the development of the country’s manpower, must adapt and adopt more effective methods of education management to cope with situations as they unfold. This, in turn, requires teachers and education officers to adapt themselves and adopt new technology in order to better manage learning in the modern era, drive regeneration of students’ knowledge deficit resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, and create opportunities for lifelong learning for all Thai people.

In 2023, the Ministry of Education continues to build confidence and trust in society as it marks an important milestone in its mission to develop people’s potential throughout their lives, nurture individuals with high performance, embrace continuous learning, cultivate life skills, and facilitate well-disciplined and altruistic individuals. In line with the 20-year national strategy, 21st century changes, and global future trends, the ministry has formulated seven policies and focus points for 2023, as follows:

1.Safe schools that build confidence and prevent new threats

2.Education enhancement through competency-based curricula focusing on practicality

3.Reading, digital, saving, and history skills

4.Creation of equal opportunities with big data to support learners of all ages, including special and vulnerable groups

5.Professional skills development to get a job with competency and academic credit accumulation according to international standard qualifications

6.Support for teachers, educational personnel, and personnel under the Ministry of Education to have digital capabilities, online platforms management, and financial planning

7.Development of bureaucracy and government services in the digital age to assist in operations, information sharing, as well as education regulation and national plan formulation to create thorough public awareness

On the occasion of the 131st anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Education on 1 April 2023, the Ministry of Education would like to thank the executives, civil servants, teachers, educational personnel and stakeholders from all sectors who are determined to perform their duties to provide education to their fullest potential and develop quality manpower of all ages for the country despite challenging situations.

To mark the anniversary, the Ministry of Education has published a commemorative book telling of the history, missions, duties & powers, performance, and important roles of the ministry in education management. The book can be read in electronic form at the Ministry of Education’s online book archive: www.moe.go.th/e-book.
