Gogolook, a leading TrustTech technology company and developer of the Whoscall App, which identifies unknown incoming calls and prevents spam for smartphones, has partnered with the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) to launch a special Mother’s Day campaign. This includes a new educational awareness video, #NoOneHangUpFasterThanYourMom, alongside an offer of Whoscall premium basic codes aimed at protecting family members from online scammers.
According to the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), there have been more than 575,500 reported cybercrime cases in Thailand, resulting in over 65.715 billion baht in total damage, averaging a daily loss of 80 million baht between March 2022 and June 2024. Notably, 64% of these cases targeted females, with women aged 30-60 years and above accounting for a significant portion of more than 248,800 cases. The new campaign is therefore part of Whoscall’s unwavering commitment to preventing online scams and empowering families to protect their loved ones.
Ms. Monprapa Rattanakanokporn, Country Marketing Lead of Gogolook (Thailand), the provider of the Whoscall application, said, “Safeguarding our loved ones, especially from online scammers, has become more important than ever. While many of us are vigilant to avoid suspicious calls, our mothers might not be. Our recent insights revealed seniors are the most vulnerable target for online and phone scamming because they have large amounts of financial assets, such as savings, pensions, or retirement funds, and are less familiar with complex technology. Currently, Whoscall is one of the most popular digital anti-scam apps in Thailand. We are excited to collaborate with CCIB to launch an educational awareness video highlighting the importance of vigilance and offering free premium codes on the Whoscall app as the ultimate gifts of safety and peace of mind for our loved ones.”
The new campaign video, #NoOneHangUpFasterThanYourMom, released today, shows the risk of online scams from unsolicited calls and messages targeting senior family members. The video highlights real-life stories, verified and authorised by those involved, and provides actionable steps to protect mothers by downloading the Whoscall application and contacting the Cyber Police Hotline at 1441.
Pol. Lt. Col. Dr. Purimphat Thanaphansiri, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Division 4, Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, said, “The surge in cybercrime has heightened public awareness, especially among younger generations who are more equipped to recognise and combat various scam tactics. However, this level of awareness does not extend to mothers or the elderly. According to the latest CCIB statistics, middle-aged women and the elderly, or mothers, are the primary targets of scammers. The top online scam cases that have caused the most damage in Thailand are online investment scams resulting in nearly 70 billion baht of accumulated damages. This timely collaboration with Whoscall for Mother’s Day comes at a crucial moment when online scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and we look forward to working together with Whoscall to safeguard our communities and stay one step ahead to protect our most vulnerable citizen group.”
As part of the Mother’s Day event, Whoscall is also offering 500,000 free 2-month premium basic codes, valued at over 29 million baht.
Interested individuals can help themselves and their mothers by entering the code WHOSCALLSAVEMOM at https://redeem.whoscall.com/ to enjoy features such as the auto spam call blocker, auto-update number database, and SMS filter. This offer is valid from today until 31 August 2024.
