TRIUP FAIR 2024 to Showcase Thai Research Innovation

TSRI, along with public and private partners, will host TRIUP FAIR 2024 to promote research, innovation, and collaboration, boosting national competitiveness and sustainable development.

Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), in collaboration with nine funding management units and partners in the Science, Research, and Innovation (SRI) System, is teaming up with the Federation of Thai Industries (F.T.I.), the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Trade of Thailand to announce the “Thailand Research and Innovation Utilisation Promotion Fair 2024 - TRIUP FAIR 2024,” to be held from 24 to 26 September 2024 at Royal Paragon Hall, 5th floor, Siam Paragon. This event will serve as a one-stop service, marking a major collaboration between various agencies under five ministries: the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation; the Ministry of Industry; the Ministry of Commerce; the Ministry of Public Health; and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, as well as intermediary organisations providing comprehensive services to the private sector. These services include research funding, investment loans, testing laboratories, standards certification units, business development units, marketing promotion units both domestically and internationally, and various public communication channels.

The event will feature a follow-up system to support and connect mechanisms with various agencies over three years and will present over 150 ready-to-use research and innovation works divided into four themes: (1) Medicine and Health, (2) High-value Agriculture and Food, (3) Net Zero Emission, and (4) Appropriate Technology. There will also be opportunities for business matching among research owners, entrepreneurs, and investors, business consulting services from over 50 public and private organisations, panel discussions, and training sessions to strengthen entrepreneurs and researchers, featuring more than 40 domestic and international speakers. Additionally, there will be an audition to select research and innovation projects for the Shark Tank Thailand programme and the sale of innovative products to promote the use of Thai research and innovations.

Professor Emeritus Sirirurg Songsivilai, M.D., Ph.D., Chairman of the National Commission on Science, Research and Innovation Promotion, stated that TSRI has a policy to drive the country's key issues to achieve goals within 2-3 years. This requires collaboration from the Federation of Thai Industries, the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Trade of Thailand, as well as constituents in the SRI System, to ensure that research and innovation are utilised effectively, enhancing the industrial sector’s capabilities, generating income, securing economic stability, and improving the quality of life for the people. Following the enactment of the Thailand Research and Innovation Utilisation Promotion Act (TRIUP Act), TSRI has allocated a budget of over 2,100 million baht for the fiscal year 2024 and over 2,500 million baht for the fiscal year 2025 to align with the law's intentions. TSRI will focus on two main areas: 1) compiling a list of Appropriate Technologies, currently over 1,300 items, and facilitating successful pairings, and 2) gathering Invention Disclosures, currently with 276 submissions to funding providers. The expected outcome is an increase in commercial and social utilisation.

Mr Kriengkrai Thiennukul, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (F.T.I.), stated that enhancing Thai industries to increase competitiveness and achieve sustainable growth requires the application and integration of research, technology, and innovation into industrial processes. This is crucial for improving the efficiency and quality of production in the industrial sector, reducing time and costs, and allowing the industry to adapt to current situations and meet changing consumer demands and trading patterns.

“I would like to thank TSRI for allowing F.T.I., representing the industrial sector, to be a key partner in organising TRIUP FAIR 2024. I am confident that this event will provide an opportunity for entrepreneurs and the private sector to encounter practical research and innovation that will help enhance the potential of Thai industries by applying research, technology, and innovation. This will increase the competitiveness of the Thai industrial sector. Apart from collaborating on the TRIUP FAIR, F.T.I. is ready to move forward with the 'Innovation One Fund' project, a mechanism to support startups with skills, knowledge, and expertise in technology to grow domestically and compete internationally. The project will connect innovative startups with SMEs in our member network that need innovation to support their businesses, promoting sustainable growth, in line with our ONE FTI policy for the 2024-2026 term, aimed at strengthening the Thai industry for a stronger Thailand,” Mr Kriengkrai added.

Miss Korbsook Iamsuri, Director of the Executive Board, The Thai Chamber of Commerce, stated that the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand is committed to promoting the practical application of new research and innovation through cooperation with various agencies, including educational institutions, government agencies, and the private sector, to ensure real-world applications. For the “Thailand Research and Innovation Utilisation Promotion Fair 2024 - TRIUP FAIR 2024,” the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, as network partners, have participated in promoting the event to their members and networks, particularly the Young Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce (YEC). They encourage input and demand related to research, technology, and innovation, believing that applying research and innovation does not only enhance business competitiveness but also expands knowledge and technology for sustainable social development. The Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand has consistently collaborated with YEC and members to create positive changes for the country and society.

Assoc. Prof. Patamawadee Pochanukul, Ph.D., President of Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), stated that TSRI, the F.T.I., the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Trade of Thailand, along with partner agencies, including Programme Management Units (PMUs), universities, research institutions, and government agencies that support entrepreneurs, have jointly organised the TRIUP FAIR for the third consecutive year. This year’s event not only showcases the capabilities of Thai research and innovation but also aims to address challenges and reduce obstacles to the application of research and innovation, creating an impact on the economy and society of the country.

“TRIUP FAIR will serve as a hub for the ecosystem of utilising research and innovation, enabling private sector companies, entrepreneurs, investors, and research owners to network, exchange ideas, and build on knowledge towards sustainable growth. See you at the Thailand Research and Innovation Utilisation Promotion Fair - TRIUP FAIR 2024 ‘Impact Journey to Ignite Thailand’ on 24-26 September 2024, at Royal Paragon Hall, 5th floor, Siam Paragon,” concluded the TSRI President.
