BDMS Wellness Clinic, a leading preventive health centre, announced on October 4, 2024, its collaboration with Bangkok Cancer Hospital Wattanosoth to launch the “Voice of Care for Breast Cancer” campaign. This initiative aims to raise awareness about breast cancer in women, reduce mortality rates, and enhance the quality of life for patients. Through the comprehensive Breast Cancer Healing program, the campaign offers a full spectrum of care, encompassing prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and post-treatment recovery.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death globally and is a significant non-communicable disease (NCD). Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO)’s statistics, over 2 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer globally each year, with over 685,000 deaths annually. In Thailand, the National Cancer Institute reports cancer as the leading cause of death, with WHO's 2021 data showing 190,636 new cancer cases in Thailand and 109,554 deaths annually, or about 13 deaths per hour. Among these, breast cancer ranks third after liver and bile duct cancer, and lung cancer.
Tanupol Virunhagarun, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of BDMS Wellness Clinic and BDMS Wellness Resort, emphasised the role of lifestyle in preventing cancer. “Although NCDs like cancer can be influenced by genetics, lifestyle choices significantly impact cancer risk. Prevention starts with maintaining a healthy weight, eating nutritious foods, exercising regularly, getting enough rest, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and managing stress,” he said. Regular cancer screenings are also crucial for early detection and treatment planning.
He also stated that “BDMS Wellness Clinic is committed to being part of the effort to reduce breast cancer rates. This year, we are collaborating with Bangkok Cancer Hospital Wattanosoth to organise the 'Voice of Care for Breast Cancer' event to raise awareness about cancer prevention for everyone. Moreover, we provide comprehensive care for breast cancer patients in all aspects, from prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment, to post-treatment rehabilitation. As part of our Cancer Wellness initiative, the Breast Cancer Healing program aims to enhance the quality of life for patients, helping them return to living with the best possible quality.”
Professor Dr. Teerawut Kuhaprema, Director of Bangkok Cancer Hospital Wattanosoth, commented on this collaboration, saying, "Bangkok Cancer Hospital Wattanosoth is very pleased to be a part of raising awareness about breast cancer in this initiative, aligning with our commitment to being a key force in reducing cancer-related deaths. The hospital is dedicated to providing highly effective treatment based on the 'Total Cancer Care' concept, utilising technology that offers comprehensive 360-degree cancer care. This includes initial screening, genetic risk assessment, precise diagnosis with modern technology, and pathological examinations, leading to accurate treatment and post-treatment cancer wellness, all under the close care of specialised doctors and nurses."
He added, "Once patients have recovered from cancer, rehabilitation after treatment is equally important. During treatments like chemotherapy, surgery, or radiation, patients may experience various side effects, such as dry skin, hair loss, scarring, or hormonal changes. This collaboration with BDMS Wellness Clinic complements cancer treatment, helping to restore confidence and improve the quality of life for cancer patients."
Dr. Jira Thawornpradit, Director of Prevention and Wellness Clinic at BDMS Wellness Clinic, said that “Caring for breast cancer patients does not end with treatment. Post-treatment health care is a crucial step. BDMS Wellness Clinic has launched the Breast Cancer Healing program, designed to provide comprehensive post-treatment care for breast cancer patients. This program offers holistic recovery, including personalised internal health management to prevent cancer recurrence, tailored nutrition to meet the body's needs, appropriate exercise plans after surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy, and managing stress and sleep. It also addresses skin and hair care to restore confidence and improve the quality of life for cancer patients.”
He added that “The Breast Cancer Healing program provides personalised care at every step, with a multidisciplinary team including dietitians, physical therapists, sports scientists, and mental health experts working closely to help patients return to a confident and healthy life."
At the “Voice of Care for Breast Cancer” event, there will be activities such as cancer prevention nutrition education, breast cancer self-examination tutorials, and wig-fitting workshops. Breast cancer survivor Pattama Prommin will share her experience, while actress and leading host Boom Supaporn Wongthuaithong will advocate for breast cancer awareness and self-care among Thai women.
BDMS Wellness Clinic and Bangkok Cancer Hospital Wattanosoth are dedicated to leading the way in comprehensive cancer prevention and recovery, providing tailored care to help breast cancer patients navigate their journey with strength and improved quality of life.
