The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has signed a landmark contract with ROCTEC Global Public Company Limited, in collaboration with consortium partners SKY ICT Public Company Limited and United Telecom Sales and Services Company Limited, to implement a comprehensive Telecommunications Network System Installation Project.
Under the agreement, ROCTEC—an experienced ICT solutions provider with over three decades of expertise and a strong track record in railway infrastructure in Hong Kong—will play a key role in supporting the design and implementation of a nationwide high-speed fibre optic network across SRT’s rail system. The project aims to enhance safety, operational efficiency, and passenger services, while also laying a foundation for long-term digital transformation.
Mr Weng Sam Lam, Chief Executive Officer of ROCTEC, said the initiative marks a critical step in modernising SRT’s communications infrastructure to improve connectivity, streamline train control, and lower operational costs. “We are honoured to support Thailand’s digital rail transformation. This new system will enable more efficient operations, support network expansion, and integrate with future high-speed rail developments. It also aligns with national goals for infrastructure and economic growth,” he said. Completion is expected within two years.
The project comprises two key areas:
- Telecommunications Backbone Construction – This includes the installation of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) systems, IP/MPLS networks, IP telephony systems, train control telephony, and extensive fibre optic cabling across key SRT routes.
- Advanced Technology Deployment – Around 3,000 kilometres of fibre optic cable will be installed along SRT's main lines, stations, and offices. The system will support bandwidth expansion, CCTV, train communications, VoIP services, and cybersecurity measures to protect against digital threats.
A centralised Network Operations Centre will also be established to monitor and manage the entire system in real-time, ensuring robust oversight and rapid response capabilities.
This collaboration is expected to elevate SRT’s digital infrastructure and facilitate seamless integration with future smart rail systems.
