Thailand’s Department of Tourism is launching a proactive campaign to stimulate the economy and enhance the country’s image through a cash rebate incentive of up to 30% for international film productions. The initiative specifically targets production companies attending the 78th Cannes Film Festival in France this year, with the aim of attracting global film and series shoots to Thailand.
Mr. Jaturon Phakdeewanit, Director-General of the Department of Tourism, revealed that the 30% cash rebate policy for foreign film productions is part of Thailand’s proactive strategy to position the country as “Thailand: World’s Best Film Destination.” The initiative focuses on the European market, known for its high-quality film productions and growing interest in Asia.
“We see the Cannes Film Festival as a key platform to engage with global filmmakers,” said Mr. Jaturon. “Announcing a rebate of up to 30% will help position Thailand as a top choice for producers seeking new locations that offer both stunning landscapes and experienced local crews.”
Thailand has previously welcomed numerous high-profile film productions from Hollywood and Europe, including Meg 2, S.W.A.T., The White Lotus Season 3, and most recently, Jurassic World: Rebirth. These productions have generated billions of baht in revenue for the country and have also contributed to promoting Thai tourism indirectly.
The Department of Tourism hopes that this new policy will not only attract film crews from Europe but also enhance Thailand’s soft power on the global stage through art and cinema. The incentive is designed to provide a clear motivation for foreign film investors, fostering tangible growth in international film production in Thailand, while boosting regional economies and promoting the sustainable development of the country’s creative tourism industry.
