Phichit will introduce a dok krajiao walking trail in the Khao Lon community forest as its new tourist destination.

The flower field was found last year in the 400-rai forest in Khao Chet Lok of Thap Khlo district, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) director of Nakhon Sawan and Phichit, Wisut Buachum.

The flowers are pale pink, their length about 20cm. The ceremony to officially launch the dok krajiao festival will be organised on July 29. The flower blossom is expected to last until September.

To visit the flower field, take Highway 11 (Tak Pha-Wang Thong) to Phichit and to Khao Lon forest of Khao Chet Lok, about 5km from the highway. Then walk about 2km in Khao Lon forest to the flower field.

Japanese ambassadors for Thai tourism

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has appointed Nogizaka46, a Japanese pop group, as Thailand-tourism brand ambassadors. The band is expected to promote Thai tourism among young Japanese travellers.

"We'd like to inspire young Japanese people as well as first-time travellers to choose Thailand as their first destination," said Srisuda Wanapinyosak, TAT's deputy governor for international marketing in Asia and the South Pacific.

Nogizaka46 features 21 members. They debuted their first single, Guruguru Curtain, in February 2012. The group has released three albums. The latest album, Umarete Kara Hajimete Mita Yume, topped the Billboard Japan charts in early June.

TAT believes that the initiative will also help promote a brand-new image of Thailand in Japan.

Last year about 1.4 million Japanese visitors travelled to Thailand, up 4.9% from the previous year.
