Phetchaburi run

TRAVEL

Hat Chao Samran, one of the coastal areas of Phetchaburi province, is home to a peaceful beach and charming local communities. The area, which is about 20km southeast of Phetchaburi city, is not too large to explore on foot, and next month there will be an event that encourages visitors to do just that.

The Chao Samran Beach Mini Marathon 2019, scheduled for Aug 18 from 5am on, is designed to be a fun family activity. There are two distances for would-be participants to choose from: 5.97km and 11.54km. You can either take part as an individual or as a team of three family members.

Registration fees are 450 baht per person and 1,350 baht for each team. Part of the proceeds will go to the Hat Chao Samran Tambon Municipality's project to provide life vests for beach swimmers.

Museum discounts

For families not into running, how about a visit to one of the many national museums across the country? In Bangkok alone, there are five of them.

Since September of last year, the Fine Arts Department, which oversees all national museums, has waived the entrance fee for Thai families visiting the museums on Sunday. However, so far not many people know about this privilege, which will expire on Sept 29. That means there are 12 more Sundays to make the most of the policy. Make a plan now before it's too late.
