The Amazing Surin Elephant Round-up, the grandest annual cultural event of the northeastern province, is being held at a number of venues in downtown Surin until Sunday.

While the legendary elephant shows, which date back to 1960, will not take place until Saturday and Sunday, a massive fair is happening every day from afternoon until late into the night, featuring a variety of performances, amusement rides, sales of food and hand-made goods from all districts of the province as well as other parts of the Kingdom, not to mention exhibitions on various topics, from culture to agriculture by many agencies and academic institutions, and lots of photogenic decorations.

The weekend jumbo extravaganzas will be held at Surin Elephant Show Stadium, from 8.30-11.30am. In the evening of both Saturday and Sunday, 6-7.30pm, there will be the Light & Sound Elephant Show at the same venue.

Tickets for the morning performances cost 300 and 500 baht, while tickets for the evening come at a single price of 300 baht. The reservation form can be downloaded from surin.go.th. For more information, call 044-512-039.

Also happening in Surin, but in Sikhoraphum district a half-hour drive east of Surin downtown, is a celebration at the Sikhoraphum Khmer monument.
