Koh Lanta bridge on the cards

Koh Lanta bridge on the cards

TRAVEL

The Department of Rural Roads plans to build a 1.95km suspended bridge connecting Ban Hua Hin to Koh Lanta in Krabi.

Koh Lanta consists of Koh Lanta Noi and Koh Lanta Yai. People can commute to and from both islands by using the Siri Lanta bridge opened in 2016. From Koh Lanta to the mainland, a ferry service is available. It transports both passengers and vehicles between Sala Dan pier on Koh Lanta Noi and Ban Hua Hin pier in Koh Klang District.

The service is available daily from 6am to 10pm. The travel time is about 30 minutes. However, service delays can occur if the sea level is not suitable for a ferry to dock at the piers. In addition, the ferry service has limited operation hours and would not be convenient for people to leave the island in case of an emergency, according to department director-general Pathom Chaloeywares.

With that in mind, the department plans to build the two-lane suspended bridge with a bicycle lane on both sides. The investment is about 1.5 billion baht. The project must pass an Environmental Impact Assessment and public hearings before being started.

If the project receives a green light, the construction will begin in the next three years and be completed in 2025.

Blooming for high season

Singha Park Chiang Rai has introduced two new flower fields to attract tourists during the high season.

One is full of the yellow blossoms of chrysanthemums and the other is a purple field of Marguerite daisies.

Opened in 2013, the park was previously named Boonrawd Farm. It is located on 8,000 rai of lush green land in Muang district. It features a wide range of attractions including a large tea plantation, fruit plantations, flower fields, a sports and recreation centre, and a restaurant. Farm tours are available daily between 8am and 5pm.
