Koh Lanta bridge on the cards
The Department of Rural Roads plans to build a 1.95km suspended bridge connecting Ban Hua Hin to Koh Lanta in Krabi.
Koh Lanta consists of Koh Lanta Noi and Koh Lanta Yai. People can commute to and from both islands by using the Siri Lanta bridge opened in 2016. From Koh Lanta to the mainland, a ferry service is available. It transports both passengers and vehicles between Sala Dan pier on Koh Lanta Noi and Ban Hua Hin pier in Koh Klang District.
The service is available daily from 6am to 10pm. The travel time is about 30 minutes. However, service delays can occur if the sea level is not suitable for a ferry to dock at the piers. In addition, the ferry service has limited operation hours and would not be convenient for people to leave the island in case of an emergency, according to department director-general Pathom Chaloeywares.
With that in mind, the department plans to build the two-lane suspended bridge with a bicycle lane on both sides. The investment is about 1.5 billion baht. The project must pass an Environmental Impact Assessment and public hearings before being started.
If the project receives a green light, the construction will begin in the next three years and be completed in 2025.
Blooming for high season
Singha Park Chiang Rai has introduced two new flower fields to attract tourists during the high season.
One is full of the yellow blossoms of chrysanthemums and the other is a purple field of Marguerite daisies.
Opened in 2013, the park was previously named Boonrawd Farm. It is located on 8,000 rai of lush green land in Muang district. It features a wide range of attractions including a large tea plantation, fruit plantations, flower fields, a sports and recreation centre, and a restaurant. Farm tours are available daily between 8am and 5pm.
Thai VietJet has received a new Airbus A320 as the 13th aircraft in its fleet.
The aircraft features 180 economy-class seats, which will serve domestic routes including new direct flights between Chiang Mai and Nakhon Si Thammarat which start on Nov 30.
The airline also offers "Sky Fun Hat Yai Pass" for unlimited flights from Hat Yai to Bangkok and Hat Yai to Chiang Rai from now until May 15, 2021.
The price is 7,200 baht excluding VAT. The offer will end on Nov 30.
Bangkok Airways offers 'Flyer Pass' promotion.
The offer is four tickets for one-way domestic flights with two service options. One is a 3,900 baht "Flyer Pass" to fly from or to all domestic destinations except Koh Samui. The other choice is a 7,900 baht "Flyer Pass" for flying to and from Koh Samui. All prices include taxes and ticket fees.
The last day for purchasing is Monday while the booking and travelling period will end on Aug 31, 2021.
Meanwhile, the airline also reported a net loss of just under 1.6 billion baht for third-quarter operations. Total revenue was 903 million baht, down 85% from the same period last year.
According to airline president Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, the main reason was because of the Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in the country's shutdown policy.
The airline has resumed its main domestic routes since the third quarter. At present, it flies to popular tourist destinations including Samui, Phuket, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai, Sukhothai, Lampang and Mae Hong Son.
