Chiang Mai and Bangkok are among the top 75 vegetarian-friendly cities in the world, according to the Vegetarian Cities Index 2021.

The report was conducted by Nestpick, a Berlin-based online housing platform. It selected 75 cities out of 200 based on each rating on the availability of vegetarian and vegan restaurants, events and price.

Top of the list were London, followed by Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Glasgow, Zurich, Palma de Mallorca, Los Angeles, Bristol and San Francisco.

Chiang Mai came in at 36th position and Bangkok is 73rd. Other Asean cities in the list were Singapore (62nd) and Ubud (67th).

The study also found that Chiang Mai is the city with the most affordable vegetarian restaurants, followed by Ubud, Bangkok, Istanbul and Prague.

Unfortunately, Phuket which has an annual vegetarian festival, was not selected for the study.

The company expects that the index can inspire vegetarians looking to move or travel abroad to pick the right city for their needs.
