The Fine Arts Department (FAD) and Suphan Buri province will open a learning centre to showcase the beginning of Suphannaphum kingdom on Aug 19.

The centre is called Khun Luang Phra Ngua And The History of Suphan Buri and is in Muang district. Khun Luang Phra Ngua, or King Borommarachathirat 1, was the first king of the Suphannaphum dynasty before ruling the Ayutthaya kingdom as the third king from 1370 to 1388.

The learning centre was initiated by the late former prime minister Banharn Silpa-archa. The FAD started working on the project in 2010. The facility houses a large bronze sculpture of the king at the centre of an 88m-long bronze relief. The art piece tells the story of the prehistory of people living in the area, the Suphannaphum kingdom and the present day.

Audio guides will be available for tourists in English, Thai and Chinese.

AIRLINES UPDATE

Bangkok Airways has postponed its first international flights between Koh Samui in Surat Thani and Singapore from Aug 1 to today.

The flights will be available on Monday, Thursday and Sunday. They will depart Samui airport at 3.05pm and the inbound flights will depart Singapore Changi at 7.30pm. The travel time is about two hours.

The airline may reschedule the date of the service depending on Covid-19 travel measures to be announced by local authorities.

Meanwhile, the airline temporarily suspended its Samui-Phuket route on Tuesday, following Covid-19 control measures in Phuket. However, the current Samui sealed routes offering two flights per day for international transit passengers from Suvarnabhumi airport to Koh Samui are still available.

The airline allows passengers to rebook or refund the tickets for the Samui-Phuket route.
