JAKARTA: Indonesia recorded 143,744 foreign visitor arrivals in January, up 13.62% annually, as the country started to reopen tourist destinations, Indonesia's statistics bureau said on Tuesday.

The monthly arrivals, however, were still far below pre-Covid-19-pandemic levels which were typically above 1 million per month, according to Statistic Indonesia.

The agency also reported that Indonesia's annual inflation rate rose 2.06% in February, easing slightly from a month earlier as some food prices cooled.

The government's move to control cooking oil prices in early February was among the reasons for the easing, Statistic Indonesia deputy chief Setianto said. The rate compared with January's 2.18% and 2.20% expected in a Reuters poll.

The annual core inflation rate, which excludes government-controlled and volatile prices, rose 2.03% in February, the highest since July 2020 Refinitiv Eikon data showed. Core inflation was 1.84% in the previous month while the poll had forecast 1.92%.
