PATTANI — Suspected insurgents launched three bomb and arson attacks in Yarang district on Sunday night, leaving a policeman injured.
The first incident occurred at 7pm at an ATM of the state-run Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) in Yarang sub-district on Highway 410 (Pattani-Yala). Police said two homemade bombs were hidden near the cash machine and exploded, but no one was injured.
About 30 minutes later, insurgents set fire to a truck owned by a private contractor hired to expand Highway 410 in an adjacent sub-district of Pitumudee.
Yarang police went to inspect the scene in a pickup truck but a roadside bomb went off shortly after 8pm when they arrived at an intersection just kilometres from the burnt truck.
The blast injured Pol L/C Wongwiwat Kiadsook who was sent to Yarang district hospital.
The attacks came after two men on a motorcycle hurled a grenade at a security checkpoint in a busy market in Yala’s Bannang Sata district earlier in the afternoon. No one was hurt in the attack. That followed a car-bomb explosion in Narathiwat early in the morning which injured two men.
