Everyone’s a winner
Realising the importance of education to Thai society, the Bangkok Post Foundation taps the generosity of Thais through a variety of channels in order to ensure underprivileged candidates get the education they deserve.
Since 2009, there have been a number of projects to help raise fund for the foundation. They include

Bangkok Post Foundation Raffles
The Bangkok Post Foundation Raffle is one of activities to raise funds for the foundation. The annual event is supported by generous sponsors who contribute a total of 300 valued prizes for the lucky draw, ranging from household items to dining vouchers, five-star hotel accommodation and air tickets.
Prize drawing takes place at the Bangkok Post office. All proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets go towards the education of needy children under the care of the foundation. No administration costs are deducted.
The first Bangkok Post Mini Marathon took place in 2009, for a 10 kilometre run, with about one thousand runners, both Thai and foreign, participating. Proceeds from the runners were contributed to the Bangkok Post Foundation, which provides education funds for hundreds of underprivileged children throughout Thailand.
Bangkok Post Mini Marathon proved to be a great success and this charity activity continues to be held annually. On August 9, 2015, almost three thousand participants participated in the 2.5 and 3.5 kilometer runs. The running took place in front of CentralWorld in Ratchadamri and the net donation was approximately 750,000 baht.
Bangkok Post Mini Marathon is a happy event indeed.
Runners make new friends, families get together, and in some cases, friendship turns to love.
Art Exhibitions and Auctions
The art exhibitions and auctions are held as opportunities arise and proceeds from the auctions and sales go towards the Bangkok Post Foundation to support education of underprivileged children nationwide. This makes a distinct difference to the lives of those young disadvantaged students.
Our first exhibition took place in 2009, jointly organized with Leo Burnett & Arc Worldwide Thailand. A collection of 50 black & white and colour photos by an Australian photographer, Garry Cooper, was displayed. Later in 2014, we organised an art auction charity event, the “Rhapsody In Colour” with a collection of abstract paintings by Viranod Buranasri, a self-taught Thai artist and photographer. At both auction and exhibitions, supportive interest exceeded expectations.
The Bangkok Post Charity Wine Dinner
Fine food philanthropy
The annual Bangkok Post Charity Wine Dinner is one of the fundraising projects that enables the Bangkok Post Foundation to boost its assistance to existing students as well as to extend assistance to more students throughout the country.
The first Bangkok Post Charity Wine Dinner, held in 2010, proved a phenomenal success and drew an astounding number of benevolent gourmands to Le Normandie French restaurant at The Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok.
It was a great evening with a fantastic line-up of Bordeaux wine that was smartly paired with a seven-course haute-cuisine dinner courtesy of Norbert Kostner, the hotel’s executive chef.
The inaugural edition raised enough money to support a classful of needy children for a year.
The resounding success prompted the second round of the charitable affair, which took place just three months later.
The second Bangkok Post Charity Wine Dinner was held at the Centara Grand at CentralWorld’s sky-high fine-dining Fifty Five restaurant. It featured a memorable gastronomic evening highlighted by the truffle-inspired menu prepared by guest chef Fulvio Siccardi of the Michelin-starred Conti Roero restaurant in Piedmont, Italy.
The third event, which took place in 2011, was a collaboration between the newspaper and JW Marriott Bangkok’s New York Steakhouse which also marked the restaurant’s 10th anniversary. It welcomed high-mind connoisseurs to a memorable 10-course steak-focused feast enhanced by outstanding wines from France and the US.
The fourth Bangkok Post Charity Wine Dinner took place at The Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok’s Lord Jim’s. It featured a multi-course gourmet banquet — a perfect symmetry of classic and novelty offerings — impressively complemented by Saint-Emilion’s premier grand cru wines from Bordeaux.
The fifth event saw a great return to the Centara Grand at CentralWorld’s Fifty Five restaurant. It treated philanthropic epicureans to exceptional Alpine Italian cuisine by Norbert Niederkofler, the highly-celebrated head chef of the Michelin two-starred St Hubertus restaurant in the Dolomite mountains in South Tyrol, Italy. The food was perfectly matched with a meticulous selection of Cantina Terlan wines.
In celebration of the 68th anniversary of the newspaper and a tribute to the steakhouse’s 47 years of culinary excellence, the next event followed soon after.
The sixth Bangkok Post Charity Wine Dinner was held at the InterContinental Bangkok’s Fireplace Grill steak restaurant in 2014.
The dinner represented the newspaper’s illustrious heritage via an awe-inspiring concept that married old and new epicurean cultures, with outstanding wines from the best areas of France, Spain, Italy and Australia.
The seventh edition returned to the Centara Grand at CentralWorld’s Fifty Five restaurant and impressively brought the best out of kind-hearted supporters again.
It showcased dexterous cuisine by guest chef Emmanuel Renaut of Michelin three-starred restaurant Flocons de Sel in the French Alps.
The latest affair, the eighth Bangkok Post Charity Wine Dinner, took place in November 2015. It delighted beef-loving gastronomes with glorious British beef and lamb, naturally-raised in Britain’s verdant countryside.
The funds raised via the Bangkok Post Charity Wine Dinner events have been used to help pay for the education of underprivileged students as well as to restore and build new facilities for needy schools across Thailand.
The Bangkok Post-Black Mountain Charity Golf and Gourmet BBQ Dinner
Teeing off for charity
The inaugural Bangkok Post-Black Mountain Charity Golf and Gourmet BBQ Dinner took place in 2012 to raise funds for the Bangkok Post Foundation through a charitable golf game complemented by distinctive dinner at the prestigious Black Mountain Golf Club, Hua Hin.
The project, which is going strong into its fifth year, is a heartfelt initiation of two key players: The Bangkok Post newspaper and Black Mountain Golf Club, with support from benevolent sponsors and a team of five-star executive chefs.
Coinciding with Thailand’s National Children’s Day, the event, which proved one of the much-awaited affairs in the calendar, is held annually on the second Saturday of January amidst Hua Hin’s cool breeze.
It treats philanthropic and golf-loving guests to a fun-filled festivity on Black Mountain’s award-winning championship golf course, beginning with a golf clinic led by world-celebrated professional golfers in the morning.
Over the years, the line-ups of international pros showcasing their wealth of experience have included Thongchai Jaidee, Prom Meesawat
and Jazz Janewattananond from Thailand; Johan Edfors, Rikard Karlberg, Pelle Edberg and Fedrik AndersonHed from Sweden; Simon Yates,from Scotland; and Berry Henson from the US.
The clinic is directed by veteran sport anchorman and former golf professional Vanpe Sajamark, who also generously serves as the event’s emcee.
After the workshop, a total of 120 golfers, grouped in 30 teams of four, play in the 18-hole, par 72 (7,591 yards) tournament on the world-class golf course amidst a breathtaking landscape.
The great outdoors day is followed an evening of the finest barbecue dinner served by a team of executive chefs from five-star hotels, Thai Airways International and fine food company at the al fresco club house.
Ever since the event started five years ago, the number of master chefs engaged in the affair, simply for the sake of altruism, has increased from 10 in 2012, 14 in 2013 and 2014 and 15 in 2015, to 16 in 2016.
The line-up of culinary maestros have included Culinary Director Norbert Kostner and Executive Chef Stefan Trepp of The Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok; Executive Chef Philippe Gaudal of Landmark Hotel, Bangkok; Executive Chef Mark Hagenbach of the Grand Hyatt Erawan, Bangkok; Executive Chef Jose Martin Ruiz Borja of Renaissance Ratchaprasong Hotel; and Executive Chef Leslie Stronach of the InterContinental, Bangkok, to name a few.
The first Bangkok Post-Black Mountain Charity Golf and Gourmet BBQ Dinner proved a hole-in-one success with 3 million baht raised for the Bangkok Post Foundation.
To conform the continuous charitable sensation, the second edition cultivated another 3 million baht; the third 4 million and the fourth 4 million baht.
Over the past four editions, the project has generated 14 million baht for the foundation. Without deductions, the money has also been used in part to help restore seven schools devastated by 2011’s mega-flood as well as to provide new building facilities for four needy schools in Prachuap Khiri Khan, while the rest is used to support the education of hundreds of underprivileged students nationwide under the Bangkok Post Foundation.
