Nike likes a challenge

Different actors are known for different kinds of roles. Nitidon Pomsuwan (Nike) is admired for his dramatic characters. He was first seen in the music video for Palapon’s “Khod Noi Tai Mai (Can I Hug You?)” in 2011. Two years later, he impressed viewers as good-hearted Suk in his first TV drama, Ruean Sa Ne Ha (House of Affection).

The 29-year-old takes acting seriously. He had many lessons with several famous acting coaches until he finally got his big break in the 2016 drama I’m Sorry I Love You. This year, he’s worked on action, romantic comedy and even period drama.

S Weekly caught up with Nike as he was working on a new TV drama, Rai Sa Ne Ha (No Affection), and chatted about his acting.

When did you realise that you wanted to be an actor?

Nike: After I did a music video. Unlike TV commercials, music videos have stories. People recognised me after the video for “Can I Hug You?” The story touched many people. I realised that my work could make people happy.

Why did you take so many acting lessons?

Nike: I didn’t want to fool viewers. I want to fully become a character. I took dancing classes as well because they taught me how to move. I really wanted to develop my acting skills.

Which character is most similar to you so far?

Nike: Suk in House of Affection. I grew up in the countryside and I’ve given blood, sweat and tears to achieve my goals. I was happy to play the role of Suk and viewers said that they felt sorry for him and some even cried for him.

Why did you accept a bad guy role in The Crime?

Nike: My character, X, is complex. Even though he’s the leader of a criminal gang, his intentions are good. He was an orphan and was bullied when he was very young. So he wants to help other orphans. After he gets some money, he’ll establish a foundation for them. 

Which role was most difficult?

Nike: I was stressed and couldn’t sleep when I played a married guy who has an affair with his gay neighbour in Rak Tong Laek [An Exchange for Love]. I talked to many gay people and the director until I understood the reasons behind the actions of the character.

What was it like to work on the romantic comedy I Love Heaven?

Nike: It wasn’t as easy as I expected. I play a ghost which was difficult to film because we had to avoid filming my shadow. I worked with several things that people said were difficult, like animals and kids. But I believe the show will be fun. It will be different from my dramatic roles. 

Tell us about your character in No Affection.

Nike: I play Anipol. He looks similar to an ex of Nongram, played by Pok Piyathida. This causes drama between the two female leading characters.

What was the best advice you ever received?

Nike: Experienced actress and acting coach Boom Ranya told me to be considerate with crews and other people who work behind the scenes. She told me to work as a team. I shouldn’t be high-maintenance or demanding and make others feel tired.
 
How do you stay healthy?

Nike: At this age, my metabolism works less well than it used to. I have a strict diet. I eat less carbohydrates and more vegetables.
