SISB Schools: 20 Years of Excellence in Education

Established international school in Thailand nurtures the next generation of scholars, leaders and global citizens

In 2001, a group of parents started a modest school to provide the best and most holistic education for their children. Two decades later, a single school has turned into five campuses with modern, world-class facilities, and that modest campus is now one of the largest and most vibrant international schools in Thailand. What has remained constant throughout the last 20 years is SISB’s unwavering commitment to teaching students using the best curricula, and nurturing them toward excellence in whatever field they choose to pursue. Most importantly, SISB paves a defined pathway for our students to gain entry into the top universities from around the world. These are some of the numerous success stories of SISB.

In her own words, SISB alumna Shirley Lo Smithgul arrived at SISB Pracha Uthit campus with little to no knowledge of the Chinese language. That changed after years of education in SISB, which made her fluent in Chinese and gave her a strong foundation in English, Mathematics, and Science. The 20-year-old is now majoring in Economics at Tsinghua University in Beijing, ranked 16th best university in the world.

Shirley said: “With guidance from my teachers in SISB, I gained fluency in Chinese and English, and that has opened doors for me to various opportunities in the Asia-Pacific, the United States, and Europe.”

“Opening doors” and providing opportunities for our students is what SISB strives for, in terms of academic excellence and other fields of interest such as sports and music.

Sirasith Amornsirivat, 19, who joined SISB as a Kindergarten student and achieved the Top in the World award for AS Level Mathematics at the Cambridge Examinations in 2019, said: “The rigorous curriculum in SISB provided a solid foundation for my studies in Sixth Form school, where I took the IGCSEs and A Levels.” Sirasith is currently enrolled at the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University.

A nurturing and accommodating environment was also one experienced by former national gymnast and SISB alumna Arisa Tanthathoedtham. She said: “SISB’s flexibility and patience for my pursuit of academic and sports excellence gave me a lot of encouragement. I believe that without the school’s support, I might not have been able to find a balance between these two aspects,” said 18-year-old Arisa, who represented Thailand at the 30th Southeast Asian Games in 2019 and finished 5th in the hoop apparatus event.

Besides catering to the needs of every student, SISB extends support to those with the potential to excel in holistic aspects, such as music scholar Simon Khongkruephan, a Grade 8 student and a vastly talented pianist. Simon won first prize at the Orbetello Piano Competition 2021 in Italy, and the Gold Medal at the 2021 Pacific International Piano Competition held in the United States. The latest feather in Simon’s cap was winning the Crystal Award at the 2021 London Youth Piano Competition.

Simon, 13, said: “SISB gave me opportunities to showcase my abilities. It increased my self-confidence and made me proud of myself. The music scholarship encourages me to strive for improvement on a daily basis.”

To see what lies ahead for SISB, we simply need to look to its past. We’ve spent the last 20 years nurturing the countless students who have walked through the gates of SISB. They have learnt, they have grown, and they have all succeeded in their own way. The last 20 years have been an incredible adventure, but SISB is just getting started. We are looking forward to the next 20 years, and beyond.

Welcome to the next chapter of the SISB story.

ABOUT SISB

Since its establishment in 2001, SISB has grown to four campuses in Thailand: Pracha Uthit, Suvarnabhumi, Thonburi, and Chiangmai in the north of Thailand. A fifth campus, SISB Nonthaburi in Chaengwattana-Chaiyapreuk-Ratchaphruk, will be ready by August 2023. Our unique strength lies in providing the best curricula from around the world, such as curriculum from Singapore and the United Kingdom (Cambridge IGCSE, A Levels), as well as the International  Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. In addition, SISB prepares our students for the 21st century by equipping them with holistic skills like critical thinking and communication, and excellent knowledge in English, Maths and Science. Most importantly, SISB creates a pathway to success for our graduates.
