Nurturing Future with
Regenerative Agriculture Drive

Nestlé commits to regenerative farming for climate resilience and sustainable food security in Thailand.

Nestlé, a giant in the food and beverage sector, has taken to heart the challenge of transforming agricultural practices to nurture the planet back to health. The concept at the core of this transformation is regenerative agriculture, a strategy that aims not just to farm the land but to heal it.

What makes regenerative agriculture so vital? It's a holistic approach, one that seeks to replenish what we've taken from the earth, promising enhanced food security and a concerted stand against the rising tide of climate change. In Thailand, Nestlé has rolled up its sleeves and is working hand-in-glove with local dairy and coffee producers, infusing traditional farming with practices that are kind to the earth and beneficial to the farmers.

In dairy circles, Nestlé's guidance has led to more diverse grass and feed crops, directly impacting carbon capture and improving the soil and the quality of the feed. The company is steering farmers towards ingenious farm waste management, where even cow manure is repurposed to nurture earthworms and produce biogas. They're even tapping into the sun's bounty, harnessing solar energy to water crops, leading to a reduction in electrical needs, lower feed costs, and a boost in farmer incomes, all under the umbrella of Good Agricultural Practices standards.

Coffee plantations are seeing a green revolution, too, with Nestlé championing 'agroforestry'—a method where the coffee bushes nestle among the trees, promoting diversity and carbon sequestration. Coffee is being grown alongside other crops, ensuring farmers have several sources of income while also fostering biodiversity. To guard against soil erosion on hilly plantations, cover crops that enrich the soil are being cultivated.

The company's push for sustainability doesn't stop there. Nestlé is pioneering the use of organic fertilizers, created from the composting of coffee husks, revitalizing the soil at reduced costs. They're distributing robust coffee plantlets, better equipped to face the vagaries of disease and climate change, ensuring the sustainability of coffee sourcing.

Nestlé's endeavours form part of a broader canvas—a pledge to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. It's a pledge that encapsulates a 'Triple Win+' philosophy: securing food for the future, ensuring farmers' prosperity, reviving ecosystems, and delivering the high-quality products that consumers expect. Nestlé's initiative is more than a business strategy; it's a commitment to the planet and to all of us who call it home.
