The Royal Coronation Ceremony is an ancient rite to complete the process of enthronement and officiate the kingship.
The coronation of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn was almost two months long, starting with a consecration of water to be used in the ceremony on April 8, 2019, and concluding with an audience with the public on May 6.
The highlight of the ceremony, however, was during May 4 to 6. On May 4, the coronation rites started with a purification bathing and anointment, followed by the crowning and investiture considered the heart of the ceremony.
On May 5, the newly crowned King went on a circumambulation of the capital, travelling on a golden palanquin carried by troops wearing traditional costumes in a majestic procession from the Grand Palace to Wat Bowon Niwet, Wat Phra Chetuphon, and Wat Ratchabophit.
The last day of the coronation rites featured a grand public audience. Members of the public had a chance to admire His Majesty the King and the royal family as they appeared on the balcony of the Suddhaisavarya Prasad Throne Hall at the Grand Palace.
