Jailed former premier Thaksin Shinawatra has not requested a second royal pardon for a further jail term reduction, according to the Justice Minister.
The minister said on Wednesday that neither Thaksin nor his family has asked for a second royal pardon since he was granted the first one which saw his eight-year jail term cut to one year by His Majesty the King.
Thaksin, 74, returned to Thailand on Aug 22 after 15 years in self-exile. On the same day, the Supreme Court ordered that he be imprisoned for eight years for three convictions.
However, he was sent from Bangkok Remand Prison that night to Police General Hospital for health reasons and has stayed there since.
The justice minister also said on Wednesday the Corrections Department will consider doctors’ opinions before deciding whether to extend Thaksin’s hospitalisation outside prison further, to 120 days, at the end of this month.
