2018 Mitsubishi Xpander: Thai prices and specs

All-new seven-seater comes in two grades with the basic one costing 779,000 baht.

Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has announced prices for the all-new Xpander seven-seat vehicle.

Imported from Indonesia using Afta trade perks, the Xpander comes in two trims: GLS Limited at 779,000 baht and GT at 849,000 baht.

The GT’s 70,000 baht price premium is due to the more features it gets over the GLS Limited. They include rear parking camera, fog lamps, exterior chrome parts, multi-information display and touchscreen. Dual airbags are standard in both grades.

Designed as a crossover mixing MPV practicality and SUV-like ground clearance, the Xpander aims to attract punters of the Honda Mobilio and BR-V seven-seaters.

While the BR-V costs 820,000 baht, the Mobilio can be had for 100k less. Both Hondas come with 117hp 1.5-litre petrol and CVT automatic.

Other seven-seaters with similar engines and prices include the aging Toyota Avanza and Suzuki Ertiga, the latter set to be replaced with an all-new version in Thailand early next year. It has already been unveiled in Indonesia this year.

As driven for the first time on Thai roads last month, we found the Xpander scoring on interior space and versatility and decent levels of cruising comfort.

The biggest letdown, however, is the breathless performance resulting from an unfancied 105hp 1.5-litre petrol motor and four-speed automatic transmission.
