2018 Mercedes-Benz S560 Coupe and Cabriolet: Thai price and specs

Two-door and soft-top S-Class variants receives subtle visual tweaks, new downsized V8 engine and nine-speed automatic transmission.

Mercedes-Benz Thailand has launched updated versions of the S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet.

As part of their mid-life revisions, there are newly designed bumpers and LED lights with a classier appearance.

The interior widescreen monitor has been updated to accommodate more functions, while the steering wheel has been replaced with a new one.

The more important news come under the bonnet where a new downsized 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 supersedes the 4.7-litre eight-cylinder of the pre-facelift S500 models.

Badged S560, the M176-tagged motor produces 469hp and 700Nm; the S500’s M278-coded variation makes a lesser 455hp but the same amount of torque.

The outgoing seven-speed torque-convertor automatic has been replaced by a nine-speeder.

Although performance remains basically the same as before -- the S560 Coupe does 0-100kph in 4.6sec -- fuel economy improves from 10.6kpl to 12.5kpl.

Prices have set at 15.99 and 16.72 million baht for the Coupe and Cabriolet respectively, both available only in sporty AMG Premium spec. These represent a 500,000 baht increase over the pre-facelift models.

The S560 Coupe and Cabriolet are without a direct competitor in Thailand. The Bentley Continental, for one, is essentially a 20 million baht GT sports car.

BMW’s new 8 Series, which was revealed recently abroad but has yet to reach Thai showrooms, is slightly smaller in size and is designed to compete in the 10-15 million baht price bracket with either six- or eight-cylinder power.
