Peugeot gives 3008 plug-in hybrid tech

Semi-electric SUV gets 300hp of power and 59km of all-electric driving range.

That appears like a good compromise…

If you think there are still some limitations with pure battery-electric vehicles, those fitted with plug-in hybrid systems may be a better solution for now.

Which is why Peugeot has revealed first details of the plug-in 3008, despite making the smaller 2008 available with all-electric power earlier this year in Europe.

The so-badged 3008 Hybrid4 features 200hp 1.6-litre petrol-turbo and an electric motor on each axle producing a combined 300hp. Transmission is via eight-speed automatic.

This all-wheel drive 3008 can go from 0-100kph in 5.9sec and travel for 59km in all-electric mode. Some driver assist tech include active cruise control and lane-keep.

Peugeot has also announced that a front-wheel drive model will come later. Billed as 3008 Hybrid, combined power is lowered to 225hp as the internal combustion engine has been detuned to 180hp and the rear electric motor removed.

I hope Peugeot will sell it in Thailand…

Peugeot is making a comeback in Thailand via a new distributor with two models initially: the five-seat 3008 and seven-seat 5008 both sharing a 1.6-litre petrol-turbo engine.

And yes, it would certainly be nice if Peugeot considers the plug-in hybrid variant for Thai showrooms. Like how Volvo imports the T8 plug-in hybrids of the XC90 and XC60 from Malaysia, Peugeot could do likewise with the Malaysian-assembled 3008 for lowered taxes.

At the moment, there’s no plug-in hybrid model in the Thai mass-market car scene. The MG ZS EV is a BEV imported from China priced at 1.19 million baht.
