2019 Audi A6 Avant made more price-affordable in Thailand

Load-carrying version of Audi’s executive car now has four-pot petrol with mild hybrid tech and sporty Black Edition spec to choose from.

In a bid to maintain its image with estate-style family cars, the Thai Audi office has made the A6 Avant more affordable in price with the option of a smaller engine.

Following the 55 TFSI with 340hp 3.0-litre V6 petrol-turbo, there’s now 45 TFSI featuring 245hp 2.0-litre four-cylinder. Like the six-potter, the smaller of the two gains 48V mild hybrid tech.

After seeing success with the Black Edition model in the smaller A4 Avant, Meister Technik has applied the sporty treatment to the A6 Avant 45 TFSI as well. Details include black colour for the grille, roof rails, side mirrors and window frames. A large glass top is standard, too.

Priced at 4.299 million baht, the 45 TFSI is 700k cheaper than 55 TFSI. Both are completely built-up imports from Europe and are trying to convert buyers who might have considered sedans initially.

The latest A6 Avant goes into direct contention with the BMW 530i Touring M Sport, which comes with 252hp 2.0-litre petrol-turbo.

Figures from both companies indicate that the Audi is 0.3sec faster from 0-100kph, at 6.2sec; it’s 200k cheaper than the BMW, too.

Volvo also sells an estate of this size appealing to niche buyers in Thailand. Also shipped into the country from Europe, the V90 has 190hp D4 diesel power going for 4.09 million baht making it the most price-attractive estate in its segment.
