Entertainment schedules back on air, within reason

Major digital TV operators have adjusted their programming to suit the mourning atmosphere as they resume broadcasting entertainment content today.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has issued guidelines for digital TV and radio channels to resume the broadcast of entertainment content after suspending it for 30 days since the passing of His Majesty the King.

However, some entertainment programmes are still not allowed during the first week of resumption due to inappropriate content.

BEC World Plc, the operator of Channel 3 Original and Channel 33HD, has adjusted its line-up including dramas, variety shows and documentaries for the Nov 14-20 period.

Its prime-time drama, Nakee, starring Nuttaporn Temeerak and Phupoom Phongpanu, will be on air again six days in a row from Nov 14. More dramas will be brought back to air as well.

Channel 3's variety shows carrying content related to His Majesty the King will remain during weekdays, such as Lightning Talk with Saisawan Khayanying.

Its sports programme, Thai Fight Air Race I, will be broadcast on Saturday from Nov 19 during the prime-time period to get back its viewers.

RS Plc announced that Channel 8 would return to its usual schedule of news, sports, drama and variety from Nov 21, but would ensure that content is appropriate as people are still grieving.

RS chief operating officer Pornpan Techarungchaikul said the channel has followed the NBTC's broadcasting guidelines since Oct 13 to pay tribute to the late King.

Kematat Paladesh, president of PPTV, said the digital TV channel will follow the NBTC's guidelines to restrict the broadcast of inappropriate content during Nov 14-20. It will focus on news related to the royal funeral, documentaries, sports and dramas such as See Pan Din.
