True Corporation boss Suphachai Chearavanont insists that it will be business as usual for the country's leading communication conglomerate in the wake of his departure.

The youngest son of Dhanin Chearavanont stressed that the "business of True Corp will go on", after he takes on the chief post of Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group's business empire.

"There is no such thing as a 'one-man show' in our business. With or without me, True will have to carry on its existing business management and operations," he said.

Mr Suphachai, 49, is tipped to succeed Mr Dhanin, 78, as chief executive of CP after Thailand's richest man steps down from the post.

Mr Suphachai now serves as vice-chairman of CP Group. He is also president and chief executive of True Corporation, the group's telecom business.

Mr Supakit, the eldest son of Mr Dhanin, is tipped to serve as chairman of CP Group, overseeing CP's business in China.

Mr Dhanin, meanwhile, is likely to serve as honourable chairman at CP.

An official announcement on the reshuffle at CP Group is expected over the next few months, according to a source at CP.

Mr Suphachai will have to leave True Corporation after guiding the group through the consequences of several crises over the past two decades.

"Please don't worry about our transition management, as we have prepared our succession planning for years," Mr Suphachai said.

In addition, he said executives and employees have been informed about the transition for a while, and that it will occur at an appropriate time.

Mr Suphachai insisted that he will remain in his position as a director on the boards of True Corporation and True Move and be involved in decisions on important issues.

He declined to name his successor, saying only that the new chief of True is the most appropriate choice for the position.

A source at True Corporation who asked not to be named said Atiruth Tothaveesansuk, chief operating officer of True Corporation, is likely to succeed Mr Suphachai.

Mr Suphachai also said True Corporation is transforming its business and organisational structure as it strives to become a fully innovative digital platform service provider.

The move is aimed at dealing with greater dynamics and complex business environments fuelled by disruptive technology and services, while boosting revenue through innovative digital services.

Mr Suphachai said all telecom companies are being challenged by digital disruption, which inevitably forces them to digitise and create a flexible organisational structure and business model, as well as enhance digital skills among employees.

He acknowledged that telecom players in Thailand provide few innovative digital platforms to consumers and still lean on traditional telecom services.
