Siam Cement, Yamato Asia launch SCG Express

Siam Cement Group (SCG), the country's biggest industrial conglomerate, has joined with Yamato Asia to launch logistics firm SCG Express with an investment budget of 633 million baht.

Nithi Pattarachoke, vice-president for the domestic market in cement and building materials, said the trend towards e-commerce and the digital economy prompted SCG to capitalise on the movement.

SGC Express is positioned as a specialist in delivery of small parcels requiring special conditions such as temperature control.

"We offer small-parcel delivery service, promising not just quality but also a caring attitude comparable to how a mother cat would carry her own kitten," Mr Nithi said.

SCG Express offers four types of delivery service: TA-Q-BIN, express small-parcel delivery from home to home; Document TA-Q-BIN, express small-parcel delivery from office to office; TA-Q-BIN Collect, accepting payment upon delivery; and Cool TA-Q-Bin, providing temperature-controlled delivery.

Mr Nithi said SGC Express is the first and only company in Thailand providing temperature-controlled delivery.

The company will initially serve Bangkok and its vicinity, including Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan. SGC Express aims to open 110 service outlets by year-end.

The partner, Yamato Asia, is a leading small-parcel delivery company with strong expertise in the areas that could help strengthen SCG Express operations to grow rapidly to meet the rising e-commerce trend.

"The partnership creates a synergy of our strengths," Mr Nithi said. "SCG is outstanding in terms of innovation and quality, while Yamato Asia has solid expertise in small-parcel delivery."

An initial 633 million baht has been set aside for the company's investment budget to address customers' needs and strengthen its delivery standards.

Siam Cement Group (SCC) shares closed yesterday on the Stock Exchange of Thailand at 510 baht, down six baht, in trade worth 474 million baht.
