CHUMPHON: The Tourism Council of Chumphon welcomed the maiden flight of Thai AirAsia into the province on Sunday, expressing hope that it could increase the number of tourists here.

Provincial tourism council chairman Suwarin Mayaseth said service from the low-cost airline will make the province more accessible for tourists.

The new flights will enable the development of a regional tourism network comprising Chumphon, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Ranong,  he added.

Thai Air Asia completed its first flight from Don Mueang airport to Chumphon on Sunday. The no-frills carrier will offer daily service on the route.

Nok Air already has two daily flights between Bangkok and Chumphon.

Witchunee Kuntapeng, who is in charge of operations for Thai AirAsia, said the new route serves a government policy to promote secondary destinations for tourists to boost the economy.
