The Tourism Council of Thailand expects 40.06 million foreign visitors this year, up 4.65% on last year, while tourism operators' confidence is stable.

TCT president Chairat Trirattanajarasporn made the projection on Tuesday. He said the outlook for the third quarter was 9.70 million visitors, up 7.06% year-on-year.

A tourism council survey of tourism operators in the second quarter found their confidence index was at 100, reflecting a stable sentiment in the sector, as in the previous quarter, Mr Chairat said.

Tourism operators were concerned about fierce competition in the industry and weaker purchasing power due to local economic conditions, he said.

He advocated a government marketing campaign and incentives, including tax reductions, to boost tourism.
