The application period for the next chief at the Bank of Thailand will run for 15 business days, from May 26 to June 16, and the shortlist of candidates will be concluded by July 2.

The selection committee will meet on June 18 to compile the list of applicants, who will each present their vision for the central bank late in June, committee chairman Rangsan Sriworasart said on Friday

Applicants' presentations are limited to four pages, either on Power Point or paper, he said. The presentation and interview process is to be completed within one day.

The candidates will not be announced until the selection process is finished, Mr Rangsan said.

If there were only one or no candidates, the application period would be extended.

With the bleak economic outlook stemming from the pandemic, the next central bank governor will face a challenging task, he said.

The committee must shortlist two candidates and propose them to Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana, who will pick the next governor and forward his selection to the cabinet for nomination for royal appointment, he said.

The new governor will take over from Veerathai Santiprabhob, whose tenure ends in September. Tenures last five years.

The nomination process requires a new governor be appointed at least 90 days before the end of the incumbent’s term.

Applicants for the position must not be older than 60 years on the date of the cabinet's nomination. They must have at least a bachelor's degree from an education faculty certified by the Office of the Civil Service Commission.
