Mubadala Petroleum backs environmental activity in Samut Sakhon

The current environmental issues are undeniably critical problems facing our planet. Indeed, the erosion of coastal landscapes and seaside condition in Thailand, especially, can wait no longer.

Such is the reasoning behind the initiative of Mubadala Petroleum (Thailand) Limited, led by Mr. Rashed Alblooshi, its President, to foster the “Clean Ocean Project” launched in collaboration with the National Fisheries Association of Thailand, led by President Kamjorn Mongkoltriluck, Former President of Samut Sakhon Fishery Association, and Mr. Mongkol Mongkoltriluck, the present head of the Samut Sakhon Fishery Association.

Launched on 13 November 2020, the project comprises a combination of activities ranging from collecting garbage along the coast and releasing crabs into the natural habitat to mangrove forest planting. All activities take place within and boundaries of the nearby Learning Center for Natural Resources, Environmental Conservation and Recovery in East Mahachai, Samut Sakhon. These not only create a protective wall that prevents the displacement of land due to ocean tides in the area, they are essential to safeguarding marine life in the mangrove maze. Moreover, the work is in commemoration of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, whose life was devoted to the country and the environment.

“It has been our honour throughout these past years,” Mr. Rashed articulated, “for Mubadala Petroleum to have the opportunity to strongly support Samut Sakhon Fishery Association in arranging environmental projects. Our intention is for all activities to take place this year in commemoration of King Rama IX. We have been inspired by His Majesty’s works for the good of Thai people. We trust this project will both help mend the environment and benefit the local fishing community in His Majesty’s name going forward.”

Also supported by Mubadala Petroleum, old fishing boats were sunk in the seabed in August this year which quickly transformed into artificial reefs embedded in coastal areas of Samut Sakhon Province, thereby enhancing and expanding nursery grounds for sea life.

President Kamjorn disclosed that, “Mubadala Petroleum has been such a great supporter of us for almost four years now, from the time I was with the Samut Sakhon Fishery Association.”

“The long-term collaboration to protect and improve the environment covers areas in 22 provinces, not just Samut Sakhon. The company always demonstrates sincere care for the wellbeing of people in the communities and shows that it is not just chasing profit. They have consistently kept in touch with us and updated us on the projects they support. I believe this will be of great benefit for our community and its future.”

Mr. Mongkol further commented, “This is such a good project as it helps the environment and the community. We have worked with Mubadala Petroleum on CSR projects for some time. The ideas proposed by the company truly improve nature. They are certainly a good ally for us, especially when it comes to the environment.”

The Clean Ocean Project is just one among many projects Mubadala Petroleum has been rigorously working on to aid local communities.

Meanwhile, the company is looking forward to implementing other similar projects to help bolster sustainable national development for Thai people going forwards.
